No new book today I am being a slow poke. There will be a new one next week though. This is a good book so fun to share quotes anyways.

“So, the wooden stake through the heart thing is apparently a myth, but you can be killed by fire. Anything else?”

“Should I be concerned that one of your first questions is how to kill me?”

Her jaw dropped. “What? No! I didn’t mean… I was just curious.”

He snorted. “Well you can remain so.”

“What about the sun?” she asked. “Extra toasty?”

“I’m not going to burst into flames, but I avoid tanning beds.”

“Silver?”

“Some of my favorite cufflinks.”

“Garlic?”

“Please,” he sneered. “I’m Italian.”

Musing Monday 10/17/16

Musing Monday asks you to choose one of the following prompts to answer each week…

I’m currently reading…

I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…
I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…
I can’t wait to get a copy of…
I wish I could read ___, but…

Random Question:Who are the key players in your current book? (or current themes, if nonfiction)

I am slow with the current book because I am doing a lot. It is an enjoyable book. There are really two kinds of characters in this book humans and vampires. I know that sounds so basic but that is how it goes. There are also doctors and nerds within those categories themselves. I really think it is a lot of fun watching them interact. I get the feeling there is an evil character I don’t know yet. I kind of like the bad guys so I am looking forward to that rebel

Book review: The Magicians (The Magicians, #1) by Lev Grossman

Like everyone else, precocious high school senior Quentin Coldwater assumes that magic isn’t real, until he finds himself admitted to a very secretive and exclusive college of magic in upstate New York. There he indulges in joys of college-friendship, love, sex, and booze- and receives a rigorous education in modern sorcery. But magic doesn’t bring the happiness and adventure Quentin thought it would. After graduation, he and his friends stumble upon a secret that sets them on a remarkable journey that may just fulfill Quentin’s yearning. But their journey turns out to be darker and more dangerous than they’d imagined

The Magicians is a book that will make you believe in magic. I enjoyed every single page of this book from start to finish. With that said, there are some who claim this book is misogynistic and a variety of other things. It might be on some level, however if we didn’t enjoy things just because they had some characters and topics we didn’t like not likely we would get a lot of reading done. Yes there are some misogynistic characters, there is also sex, drug and crime. For me that is what made the book entertaining, interesting and what held my attention.

This is NOT an adult version of Harry Potter like some say, but it does have magic and a world that is different from ours within it’s pages. It also has a Syfy series now that has been based on it. I find the two to be fairly different, the series for me is a bit tamer. I for one enjoyed The Magicians and might even read it a second time (those who know me know what a big deal that is), but it is not going to be a book for everyone. If you want an Adult Harry Potter head on over to The Dresden files, main character is even named Harry.

Teaser Tuesday is one of my favorite days, and a dangerous day. Never fails that my TBR grows when I take a look at other blogs that share.

“And I also believe that love can work miracles.”

“Love?” She cocked an eyebrow at him. “What about friendship? Can that work miracles, too?”

Carwyn rolled his eyes. “Silly B, love is friendship…just with less clothes, which makes it far more brilliant.”

Random Question: Can you recall a time when you weren’t an avid reader?

No, I really can’t recall a time. Yes lately I have not been reading as much as I used too, but I still try and I still desire it. Given that I still consider myself an avid reader. I personally think once you are an avid reader you always are, unless you hit a point in your life where you just don’t want to read anymore. I have never heard to many people who have just decided to do that though. I guess once you get used to living many lives you want to continue to live them. I for one enjoy living as many lives as I can, jumping into stories, lives feeling connected with characters. Which is why even when I am focused on crochet I consider myself an avid reader, I think I will eventually find the balance I seek.

Random Question: What is your worst habit as a reader?

I have to say my worst habit as a reader has to be keeping up on my blog LOL. Beyond that I will say that my other bad habit is that I am not good at keeping things at a balance. I have not been reading as much as I should be because I have been doing so much else. I am slowly getting that balance back and reading more so at least I am slowly managing to make this it better, but it is a bad habit.

Passing on this weeks random question and going to talk a bit about the books I have been reading. In at attempt to get myself out of the reading rut (just want to be crocheting as usual oi ) I have been doing some Young Adult reading again. right now I am working on the Heartland series, as I have enjoyed the TV show. So far so good, the books are lovely too.
