“We came onto the Graben at the plague column. The lamps of passing carriages flickered over the memorial of those who died over the Black Death. Nine carved choirs of angels ascended toward it’s gilded peak. To me, it seemed like the cherubs were slipping down to hell, grasping in vain for the elusive light of salvation above them.”
― Mozart’s last Aria by Matt Rees

I shall hang my head in shame that I have posted a teaser from this poor book yet again. I keep reading a few pages and then I end up getting bogged down in work. Poor excuse I know, but the Kindle seems to get along with my work schedule a bit better than hard copy books right now. What I need is a month or two without too many people, no computer and a boat. Yup, that’s what I need.

THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: Have you ever read a book where you needed more answers to the story? Where maybe the ending was just way to open ended and you wanted to yell a the author about it? What book was it?

Since I have been revisiting some series books lately I started thinking about some books that aren’t series stories. Have you ever come across one or two that really were not the ending you wanted? Or maybe it was a series and the ending of the series was just not something you felt brought proper closure? I have actually read several stories that I just sighed and felt like it wasn’t really fully finished. One of those for me was the Twilight Series, I really didn’t like how that series was ended. Yes, I read them all and yes I am a fan even though I can admit they aren’t the best written books ever which is probably why the end makes me miffy. Along with the battle that never happened they ended just felt rushed to me. But that is of course just me.

“Night falls. Or has fallen. Why is it that night falls, instead of rising, like the dawn? Yet if you look east, at sunset, you can see night rising, not falling; darkness lifting into the sky, up from the horizon, like a black sun behind cloud cover. Like smoke from an unseen fire, a line of fire just below the horizon, brushfire or a burning city. Maybe night falls because it’s heavy, a thick curtain pulled up over the eyes. Wool blanket.”
― Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale

I have been bouncing around with this one a bit, I am enjoying it more then I did the first time but still a little on the fence about it.

THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: None

I am sorry the post is late this week and I shall not have a question of the week but it will be back next week. This weekend was my annual comic con and it was a busy time. The con itself didn’t go at all as planned but more on that later this week on Sunday Salon. It is also memorial day and for me it is somewhat solemn being raised in a Marine family. Thank you to all of those who have served and today especially those who gave everything.

Not my favorite so far but it is part of the series so at least I am finishing it up.

“I made my excuses and left, thinking, really, after a certain age, people are just going to do what they’re going to do and you’re either going to accept them as they are or you’re not.”

THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: What is your favorite place to read in?

I was recently reflecting on how I used to read all over the place and now I tend to pick certain spots. I like to read out in my little “Oasis” area a lot or else in my room. I still bring a book or kindle with me for waits and such but I find it harder to read in public these days. It isn’t because I think I will be judged or anything I just seem to get distracted more these days. Maybe it is because I have become to wary, hard to say. How about you?

Book Review: Mary Poser: Butterflies and white lies as Bollywood Comes to Nashville by Angel A.

The recipe for a warm and humorous story…

In a modest bowl of Nashville, gently place a girl who is Country music, Bible belt, and a Steakhouse foodie.

Then add a surprise portion of exotic and handsome Anglo Indian, who is a passionate Bollywood director, vegetarian and Hindu.

Stir vigorously on a bed of intense attraction.

At first, the ingredients will seem to clash and separate.

Keep stirring…

Include a dollop of jealous boyfriend and a meddling mother.

Splash in a serving of fun and mischievous friends. Keep stirring…

Add a dash of crazy aunt and a minister father to keep the flavors working together.

Sprinkle in even more complicated family members to taste.

Cook on high emotions.

The secret ingredient that cuts through the sweetness is a final layer of shocking revelation that adds a surprising depth of flavor.

Finish with a twist of ‘Oh My God! Is she really going to do that?’.

Serve as tasty bite-size chapters in a novel dish of mayhem and madness with a side of Country music and Bollywood dancing.

I went into this book really excited. The idea of combining Nashville and Bollywood really had my attention of course as often happens when I go into a book with high expectations I was left a little bit flat. I did enjoy the book however, it might not be a rereader for me but it was enjoyable for the most part.

What we have here is a basic boy meets girl story with a little twist thrown in for measure. Mary is your fairly standard run of the mill Daughter of a pastor, who seems to fight that yolk a bit in her life. Then you have, the more colorful and “exotic” Simha. There are of course all the things that go along with a white Christian girl and a non white non Christian man going on around in the book. I think for me personally the biggest problem is while the subjects are there, they are only on the surface. We as the reader never really get to dig deeply into any of the subject matter. Mary was also a little bit hard to connect to for me. I did feel a connection with Simha though, and I think overall that is what saved this for me.

So the bottom line for me, not a terrible read, but not a great one. Take a look at it and maybe see if it is your cup of tea.

I was given an advanced copy of this book to read through Net Galley, all the opinions are my own and honest.

My Gemstone Rating:

I know this will seem funny since I was reading book 3 last week but hey I am entitled to be funny sometimes decided to go back and read the rest again.

“9p.m. My flat. Feel very strange and empty. Is all very well thinking everything is going to be different when you come back but then it is all the same. Suppose I have to make it different. But what am I going to do with my life?
I know. Will eat some cheese.” ~ Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (Bridget Jones #2)

THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: How do you review your books? Do you review them right away as soon as you finish reading them? Or do you let them wait a bit and do you ever fall behind?

Another busy week and I feel like I am so behind on posting reviews gah! So this week the muse is inspired by just that. I used to be very good about posting every single review almost as soon as I finished it. Now however I end up letting myself think about the book a little and then I end up getting behind. Lots of fun…lol
