Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about book series…
Do you prefer to read stand-alone books, or books in series? Do you stick with a series the whole way through or stop after the first instalment? Are there any particular series you enjoy?(question courtesy of Elena)
Color me a dork I missed this yesterday because I was zapped from the weekend. I don’t have any preferance on series or stand alone I will read either. But if I enjoy the first book in a series I will read the next and so on. Right now I am enjoying the Pink Carnation series, and the Naked Nobility.
Book Review: The Deception of the Emerald Ring by Lauren Willig
Eloise Kelly has gotten into quite a bit of trouble since she’s been spying on the Pink Carnation and the Black Tulip — two of the deadliest spies to saunter the streets of nineteenth-century England and France. Not only has she been unearthing secrets that will change the course of history, she’s been dallying with Colin Selwick — great-nephew of Mrs. Selwick-Alderly, the keeper of important hidden documents — looking for a romantic adventure to call her own.
Little does she know there’s another fierce heroine running headlong into history…
It’s 1803 England, and Letty Alsworth awakens in the middle of the night to discover that her sister, Mary, is about to make the very grave mistake of eloping with Geoffrey Pinchingdale-Snipe (second in command of the League of the Purple Gentian). In an attempt to save the family name, Letty tries to break up the midnight assignation — only to find herself accidentally carried off in her sister’s place. The ensuing scandal forces Letty and Geoff into a hasty marriage — and just as hastily, Geoff disappears on their wedding night, under orders to hurry to Ireland and help the Pink Carnation squash a ring of Irish rebels led by the Black Tulip. Not to be outdone by her husband, Letty steals away on a ship bound for the Emerald Isle, armed and ready to fight for her integrity, and to learn a thing or two about espionage — never imagining she might learn a few things about love on the way…
The deception of the emerald ring proves to be another fantastic book in the Pink Carnation series by Lauren Willig. Now I will admit that several times while reading this novel, I wanted to smack Geoffrey and than toss him into a river or something. He so very richly deserved that! But as most heroes do, he eventually redeemed himself.
Once again we find ourselves following a duel story line. One of modern time, and one of history. Sadly we still find Eloise in her very Bridget Jones like love match and mooning over the handsome Colin Selwick. She also finds herself out on a date with someone that her grandma thinks she will like and that ends just hilariously. You will have to read it to find out though; I won’t be the one to ruin that one for you.
And in historical time we find the lovely Letty who mistakenly gets herself ruined and steals her sister’s beau and ends up marrying him! Hence you see why we wish to toss Geoffrey into a river. But alas none the less the story is filled with what I have come to expect from these novels. Fun, adventure, love and much more. So I say with this one, keep on reading.
The missing MEME’s
I am a bad girl. I missed booking through Thursday this week, and I will also miss Friday finds. Because I have been so busy all week preparing for renn fest and even with all that I still know I am going to forget something tomorrow. My mug probably cause its not been washed yet. And the man knows he has to wash it in the AM so we shall see. But next week with the first of the weekends out of the way things should be better. Oh yes and I can’t forget bobby pins and I have to pray for my hat pins. They haven’t shown up yet.

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about movies …
How do you react to movies made of your favourite books (or even not-so-favourite books)? Do you look forward to seeing them, or avoid them? Do you like to have read the book before seeing the movie?
Ah this is a great one to talk about. When a movie comes out about a book I know I admit I get a bit excited. Although if it’s a book I really like I do worry a bit about it. Because you know logically they can’t fit it all in. it’s just impossible to fit all the details and every part from a book into a movie. Sometimes I am happy with the movie and sometimes I am disappointed. Confessions of a Shopaholic was great, even if I was irritated they set it in NYC instead of London. But over all I liked it. But I was very disappointed with The Other Boleyn Girl. I know they couldn’t fit it all in, but I felt they jumped around way to much. But I most defiantly need to read books before I see the movies. It’s why I am so behind on watching the Harry Potter movies.
Sunday Salon # 4
Well another Sunday has come, and on a bad note I didn’t do much reading this last week. I was busy preparing for opening festival weekend next week, and getting costumes ready. Than Saturday was our cast picnic and when I got home I had to sleep. I was exhausted from heat, and staying up way to late when I had to get up early. But it was as always with festival worth it. We got our campsite which we will be setting up on Tuesday.
And than I got back on track, I finished Chosen and started a book for my historical fiction challenge. I am a good way through that and should be able to finish it today if I focus on it. Than I plan on catching up on the reviews I am behind on. So I feel like I am a little bit more on a plan there.
I am behind also on my article writing but I hope soon to catch up on that as well. While renaissance festival makes me tired when I go, it also jazzes me up. I get excited and I feel like I can do more things. Even with this evil cancer. After all if I can spend the day charming a King and Prince and thousands of patrons, why not catch up on some writing?

Year of Reading Dangerously Update
So I am finally getting around to doing some updates on my challenges. And here is the update for my 2009 Dangerous challenge update. I have just one more book to read for this one. So it’s 99% done. YAY! I am pretty happy about that and feel like I am doing really well.
