• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.
• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!

My Muse this week is, while I know we are not supposed to judge a book by it’s cover but how many of my fellow readers will pick one up because of it’s cover? I know I am guilty of this. I will grab a book or ask for one if the cover attracts me. I will not discount a book because of a bad cover but I will grab one because of a nice one. Lately I seem to be getting let down by those picks which has prompted the muse.

For those who asked about last week..No I do not get a *ton* of water damaged books. But the last year I have had more then usual because my youngest cat who is just now over a year old.. Loves to dump anything that is liquid to play with. Sadly I tend to read with a drink if I go to use the restroom..ect well there it goes. Now onto this weeks muse.

I am rather angry at my Kindle currently. Perfectly fine was in the middle of a good book and then I set it down to use the rest room and do some things. I come back and it has frozen itself on the ad page. I try all the trouble shooting and of course none of it works. They will be replacing it (amazon) but still. Not very happy I was in the middle of a book and now I have to take all my books off it because some of them were from net galley and not Amazon so not in my amazon library. Yup…Kindle has fallen down in my brownie points book.

My muse today is, what do you do with a book that has been water damaged? I will usually read it if I have not been then I look at it. I know that I can not trade it out on paperback swap as I do most of my books. I do not want to donate them to the library or goodwill either because they are well damaged. I tend to end up using them for art projects. So what do you do with your Water Damage books?

Today I am going to muse a little bit about a book I wrapped up reading and will be posting a review for soon. Lily of the Nile is a Historical fiction that plays with the children specifically Selene of Cleopatra and Antony and what happened to them after the war. Those who know my Love of Ancient History know I support and always will Antony, and think Octavian is a fathead (to put it nicely). Those who know me very closely know just how deep my dislike of that man run. Nearly as bad as Brutus…but that is a whole different post.

I have to say I like this story. I wish there were more stories about the children of Cleopatra and Antony. There were parts that galled me like when Antony was refereed to as having been a coward for killing himself. Bad understanding of Roman tradition there. So my muse is really do you take up reading a book if you know without a doubt there is going to be at least one character within it that you dislike a great deal?

I am reserving my muse post today to send love and healing light to all of those in Boston today. I was going to make a bookish rant about book store lines and such that I had recently, but it seems moot giving what has happened.

My Muse today is what do your pets do when your reading? I have two dogs and 8 (yes you read that correctly) cats. The dogs usually have no interest at all in what I am doing when I am reading. The cats however are all together different. Sometimes they do not care others however all they want to do is get in the middle of what I am doing. In front of the book pushing the book into my face..you know if you have a cat I am sure you have had those issues too.

Then there is this too

That is Cubby with one of my bookmarks that a friend made for me on his head. Yup they steal book marks all the time. As you can see he feels no shame at his theft..although he is a little perplexed how he managed to get it on his head like that.

You will not see any April fool’s jokes here. I am not a fan of the tradition on this day the one I call “The day you trust nothing that comes out of anyone’s mouth.” At any rate onto the book stuff.

I have a bone to pick with those who have put Ebook’s out there for review. Not everyone I know it is dangerous to put the whole brush painting thing out there, alas I have just over this weekend alone read 3 books that were terribly formatted.

I don’t mean just a little bad space here and there, I mean words stuck together likethis every 5 or 6 words. Large massive spaces where one shouldn’t be. Lik

e this. The authors name and random numbers in spots where it just did not make any sense. Now I know when you get a copy before release there is some work that needs to be done. However I am starting to feel that they could at least do a cursory look to make sure it is readable. If your offering the book for review after all one would think you would want the book to be read by the reviewers. Is it just me am I wont or over reacting in this feeling?

My muse for today is how do you select what your going to read? I select what I am going to read on several factors. What tours I have coming up, what books have I gotten for free with release dates coming and what mood I am in for reading. I always try to read a book before release date..but sometimes I am just not in the mood for that particular kind of book. Tour books of course I always get read.

My Musing this week is about one of my current reads I am reading the first book in The Vampire Academy . I gave into curiosity and peer pressure. I am not sure if I like it yet or not. I am 87 pages in and have not really felt a connection with either of the main characters. That said I am digging Dmitri the Russian Guardian.

So my muse is do you keep going with a book that your not sure you will like. I don’t dislike the book but I just feel no connection yet, how long do you stick with a book until you set it aside?

I am obsessive about my library being clean. It is by far the cleanest room in my house although the cats like to try to change that for me. They dump things over and oh yeah Pasha shredded a whole roll of paper towels recently. I dust often and I am just very fussy if anything is out of place. Is that strange?
