Teaser Tuesday 10/4/16

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along with Teaser Tuesday! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…

I wish I could read ___, but…

Random Question: What is your worst habit as a reader?

I have to say my worst habit as a reader has to be keeping up on my blog LOL. Beyond that I will say that my other bad habit is that I am not good at keeping things at a balance. I have not been reading as much as I should be because I have been doing so much else. I am slowly getting that balance back and reading more so at least I am slowly managing to make this it better, but it is a bad habit.

Passing on this weeks random question and going to talk a bit about the books I have been reading. In at attempt to get myself out of the reading rut (just want to be crocheting as usual oi ) I have been doing some Young Adult reading again. right now I am working on the Heartland series, as I have enjoyed the TV show. So far so good, the books are lovely too.

I blogged about ____ this past week.

Random question: What obscure book do you think should be turned into a movie?

Hmm this is a tough one because there are a lot of books that are movies and people don’t know about it. I think for myself on this musing Monday I would say the Pink Carnation series. Now i know they are not that obscure but they have never hit the big fame many think of when they think of movies. I think the back and forth between the history and the modern day would be a lot of fun.

Happy Labor Day

pictures-for-labor-day-2

No Musing Monday this week. Just a big Happy Labor day to everyone. I know like many people I tend to think of the end of summer, the start of school and a good old BBQ when I think of Labor Day. Not a bad thing at all!

However, here is what it was set out to mean from the Department of Labor’s website:

Labor Day: What it Means

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

So enjoy the BBQ and the history!

You better work!

Insert snappy fun fingers here, but all kidding aside, this is a new age of work and some of the best jobs are a form of online work. Whether you are marketing yourself as a blogger or influencer or working to get your company going the place to do it now is online.

Yes, there is still a place for face to face networking and having business cards, but the majority of marketing in today’s society needs to take place on the world wide web. We are a society that is constantly connected via computers, phones and other devices. You really can’t escape it. The tough part of that kind of marketing is there are so many subtle nuances it can be hard to stand our or even know where to start. That is why hiring a professional is always a good way to go. Companies such as Triangle Direct Media know exactly what needs to happen to make your website come up in searches and to get your brand out there. Brand is important and getting your work seen is too!

Book Review: The Night Manager by John le Carré

In the shadowy recesses of Whitehall and Washington an unholy alliance operates between the intelligence community and the secret arms trade. Jonathan Pine is ready to stand up and be counted in the fight against this ultimate heart of darkness. His mission takes him from the cliffs of west Cornwall, via northern Quebec and the Caribbean, to the jungles of post-Noriega Panama. His quarry is the worst man in the world.

If you are a fan of spy books this one will be right up your alley. The Night Manager is an intense and great read for fans of the genre. Jonathan Pine is a curious character and one I found hard to peg until closer to the end of the book. A seemingly regular kind of Night Manager until he meets Sophie and reads the paperwork, then of course everything gets turned on its head. Jonathan gets sent down a rabbit hole of revenge and leaves Cairo for much cooler climate to start with. I don’t want to give to much of the complex plot away but if you like spy novels you will likely enjoy this one. If you don’t you just might not. It does get complex and weaves along interestingly. If you would rather have the cliffs notes you can always watch BBC’s very good mini series event with Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston.

Name a favorite book you’d take to the beach: People are going to laugh but I would take Caesar’s Gallic Wars as written by himself. I enjoy reading Caesar’s papers and I will always say he was murdered wrongly. Caesar truly wanted to do what was best for the people of Rome, he was a brilliant man. Besides it is fun to read war stories on the beach because you can build forts and the like. 😉
