“Everything at the moment, my dear, no doubt seems disgusting. I know the mood too well. But being in that mood, Ross, is like being out in the frost. If we do not keep on the move we shall perish.”

“At that, his smile faded and he kissed her. “Ross,” she said. “Dear Ross.” “I love you,” he said, “and am your servant. Demelza, look at me. If I’ve done wrong in the past, give me leave to make amends.” So he found that what he had half despised was not despicable, that what had been for him the satisfaction of an appetite, a pleasant but commonplace adventure in disappointment, owned wayward and elusive depths he had not known before, and carried the knowledge of beauty in its heart.”― Winston Graham, Ross Poldark

THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION:Has a book ever made you crave a specific type of food?

I know I am very late in posting this week. No real excuses to give other then I forgot to schedule a post and the last week yesterday especially have not been fantastic. Sorry about that everyone, I will try not to have that happen again.

Anyways on to the muse.

I know this seems like an odd question but I enjoy comfort food and I find when reading scenes that mention food always catch my attention. There have been several books that end up making me nearly drool with the desire to have some of the food in it. After reading one particularly nice scene that talked about a table full of sweet treats had me running to see if I had any pie to have.

I am back to another series set that I have liked since I was younger and is currently a running TV show. Good ole Ross Poldark has been a friend of mine since oh goodness well since I was very young. He is a very flawed hero but I always found that was one of the reasons I liked him so much, even if I didn’t like his actions he was very human.

“The case is closed, Mr. Poldark. You will kindly step down.” “Otherwise,” said Dr. Halse, “we will have you committed for contempt of court.” Ross bowed slightly. “I can only assure you, sir, that such a committal would be a reading of my inmost thoughts.”

THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION:Which ending of your favorite series did you truly enjoy but think the author ruined the ending?

OH there are several of these for me. If I had to pick just one, I would say it boils down to the Southern Vampire Mysteries i.e True Blood series. The show at least didn’t make me hate the ending, the book series though well frankly I will never ever forgive the Author for it. Not only was the ending a complete hash, the “follow up” little novella made it worse. Like it was a half assed way to try and not only make more money but try and fix some of what fans were having a fit about.

So how about you?

i am so sorry this is up late this week everyone. I had it scheduled to go live and wordpress decided for some reason not to post it on time. I feel bad! I am glad that I double checked the blog though after packing up a wholesale stitch marker order. Whew! So apologies made here we go and it is Teaser Tuesday.

I actually just finished this book but as I was working through the night have not had a chance to start another yet so one last quote from the second book in the Saxon series.

“But deep under the earth, where the corpse serpent gnaws at the roots of Yggdrasil, the tree of life, there are three spinners. Three women who make our fate. We might believe we make choices, but in truth our lives are in the spinners’ fingers. They make our lives, and destiny is everything. The Danes know that, and even the Christians know it, Wyrd biõ ful araed, we Saxons say, fate is inexorable.”

THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: If you could have dinner with one author alive or dead who would it be?

I know this is a play on the party game type question about any famous person but I still think it is a little bit of fun. I had to think about this one for a while and I am sure if you asked me again tomorrow I would have a different answer. Today, though, I would pick Julius Caesar. I will pause for any laughs about the fact he is a historical person. He is, of course, but he is also a writer and I have read the Gallic Wars several times. I think it would be very interesting to sit with him and see how his mind worked. He was such a genius in so many ways and yet he missed some very large red flags at the end didn’t he? I would say lets have that meal in modern times, I don’t think I want to try Dormouse.

Book Review: The Book of Deacon (The Book of Deacon #1) by Joseph R. Lallo

The tale of Myranda Celeste, a young woman orphaned by a century long war, and her chance discovery of a fallen soldier’s priceless cargo. The find will change her life, sending her on an adventure of soldiers and rebels, wizards and warriors, and beasts both noble and monstrous. Each step will bring her closer to the truth of her potential, of the war, and of the fate of her world.

This is one of those books that I just really am not sure what I should say about it. The book was not bad by any means, but it also was not what I would call a good book. Overall for me this one just came up as a bit meh and forgettable, sorry if that sounds a little bit harsh but there we have it.

The first chapters of this book were very boring to me. There were many times in fact that I wanted to just delete it from my device and not worry about it any further. I am glad that I didn’t do that as I really am not a big fan of DNF but it does happen. This is a book that I am glad I finished, but beyond that I really just could not feel a connection with any of the characters. It just feels as if none of them really fully formed enough for me to like them or “feel them”. There were a great many errors in the book which does tend to happen a lot with self published work. I try not to judge authors for that because I know I don’t write perfectly and it is incredibly brave to put your work out there. However, in this instance it was bad enough for me that it began to interfere with reading the book. Myranda was not the character I hoped she would be, I just wanted to tell her to get with the program and light a fire under her butt.

So for me, I wouldn’t say to read it, but I also wouldn’t tell you not to read it, maybe you will like it better than I did. Perhaps characters get better fleshed out in later books, I am not sure I will carry on past this one to find out.

I haven’t finished this one yet it has been a bi of chaos around here. That is alright eh? I don’t mind a bit of extra time spent with Uhtred and his companions. This quote won’t be to everyone’s taste, but this passage always makes me laugh.

“Your mother didn’t give birth to you,” I told hint, “but farted you out of her shrivelled arsehole.”
“Frightened or not,” Asser said, “you’ve taken Peredur’s silver, so you must fight them now.”
“Say one more word, monk,” I said, “and I’ll cut off your scrawny balls.”
