Book Review: Royal Mistress by Anne Easter Smith

LONFrom the author of A Rose for the Crown and Daughter of York comes another engrossing historical novel of the York family in the Wars of the Roses, telling the fascinating story of the rise and fall of the final and favorite mistress of Edward IV.

Jane Lambert, the quick-witted and alluring daughter of a silk merchant, is twenty-two and still unmarried. When Jane’s father finally finds her a match, she’s married off to the dull, older silk merchant William Shore—but her heart belongs to another. Marriage doesn’t stop Jane Shore from flirtation, however, and when the king’s chamberlain and friend, Will Hastings, comes to her husband’s shop, Will knows his King will find her irresistible.

Edward IV has everything: power, majestic bearing, superior military leadership, a sensual nature, and charisma. And with Jane as his mistress, he also finds true happiness. But when his hedonistic tendencies get in the way of being the strong leader England needs, his life, as well as that of Jane Shore and Will Hastings, hang in the balance.

This dramatic tale has been an inspiration to poets and playwrights for 500 years, and told through the unique perspective of a woman plucked from obscurity and thrust into a life of notoriety, Royal Mistress is sure to enthrall today’s historical fiction lovers as well.

Happy Teaser Tuesday everyone!  Happy solstice and Christmas week. Been a good one here so far. All of my Dresden file kittens have found their forever homes. Best yet Susan and Murphy get to go home together. I truly wished that for them as they have a good bond. None can go home just yet we have to finish ring worm treatment and have surgeries. But they have the families they will be going to and that makes me very happy.

Happy Teaser Tuesday everyone! I hope everyone’s week is going well so far. Almost Christmas, wow. I am not usually big on Christmas, but I needed some extra cheer this year (don’t we all). So I have been doing a bit of decorating. Even whipped up some of my room spray in a Christmas scent. Not going anywhere this year, staying safe, but hey I can make it more homey. What are your plans for the holidays this year?

Happy Teaser Tuesday everyone! I hope everyone’s week is going well so far. Please pardon if you happen to see a small script error on the top of the page, it is a tech issue after transferring hosting over. I am working on in, but it is taking time and frustration. May just end up doing a different theme layout and trying to keep my favorite parts. Okay, sorry about the little vent. Just been a rough couple of days with the transfer.

Ambrosia’s little note:

Happy Teaser Tuesday everyone! I hope everyone’s week is going well so far. Turkey day week for my US friends, I hope you have a safe and enjoyable holiday. Small thing here, not traveling to family or going out. Not even sure we will do a traditional meal. Been on my toes still with the little foster kittens. Miss Murphy is as it turns out blind. She also keeps having reoccurring eye infections, so when she is big enough for the longer surgery she will be spayed and have the eyes removed. She doesn’t know she is different. Always playing and flinging herself at her siblings.

Miss Susan has one eye that has an issue and will have it removed when she’s big enough as well. They are happy and healthy otherwise. Caesar and Cleo are also doing well and slowly but steadily gaining weight. Caesar is such a chill little dude, its kind of awesome. Sorry to babble on about foster kitties, they are basically my life at the moment. LOL. I would share a teaser from the articles I have been reading about blindness in kitties but I am sure it wouldn’t be interesting…LOL Anyways onto the Teaser…
