Sunday Salon 4/20/14

Sunday again and in my last Sunday salon I mentioned the great debate over what books to take with me on my trip and how I did not trust the kindle not to run out of batteries so I was taking a coupld hard copy books too. Guess what? GOOD THING,yup ran out of juice and I was out of interesting movies to watch so I had my hard copy books to turn too and I was happy for that. I am home now have been for a bit here, and swinging slowly back into a non vacation reading routine.

I am three books behind schedule. on my main challenge *gasp* but I am not stressing about it. Aside from the fact that there is still a lot of time left in the year this tends to happen to me in the start of the year. I have good reading but not enough and then summer time hits and I tend to crank out more books then most would think. Happened last year at one point or another too and then I smashed several goals, so I am not worried not worried at all yet, talk to me in June ha ha.

I am really enjoying the Dresden series I can say I am sorry I didn’t get started on it sooner but hey better late they never right? For the most part they have only been on my radar a year or two and there are TBR books that have been on my pile for 6 or more so they line jumped ha ha. That reminds me…..I need to read the next Cynster book.

The Sunday Salon 3/9/14

Sunday and what a week it has been around here! Almost time for my trip and I have to start debating what hard copy books I am going to take with me as well as the kindle. I know everyone is probably going “but you have a kindle why take hard copy books?” well because I don’t trust my kindle not to run out of batteries on the plane and then leave me bored. Better safe then sorry. I think two hard copy books should be good if I pick decent sized ones.

I have also decided that I like audio books (yes everyone start groaning now) because it is great to listen to them while I am doing crochet work. I feel like I am getting two things done at once that way and that is just fantastic! So now along those lines I am debating if I want to join audible.com. Are any of my book friends members? If so what do you think? Let me know I honestly want to know! I also want to make sure I have it right, it seems for 14.95 a month you only get one audio book? Is that true? If that is I think I may be getting audio books from the library instead! Reminds me I didn’t get a ebook loan from the library read in time either so that has to go back on the TBR. Oh so many books so little time!

Sunday Salon 2/23/14

Sunday is here and so am I. Now some might be reading that statement and saying, well of course you are here why wouldn’t you be? Well the simple answer is according to the Viking calendar yesterday was supposed to be Ragnarok, the end of the world. So Chalk up another I survived the apocalypse T shirt for me. I still would have liked to have seen this guy show up.

But you win some you lose some right? Plus side of surviving the Viking end of the world, plenty of more reading can be done! I am specifically setting time aside this week to read. I have been so busy with other projects as of late I have falling behind on my reading, and I feel guilty about it. Not because the reading isn’t done, I mean in general the books will always be there. I feel guilty I am not enjoying my books! I have been enjoying my crafts a lot. Still time to dive in fully and finish up Must Love Otters and get some other books going. I have also decided to get some of the books I want to read..on Audiobook I know *Gasp* what can I say the red necklace sold me.

Sunday Salon 2/16/14

Another Sunday has come and it has been another slow week for me reading wise. Although I have started must love Otters and I have say say  chapter in and I am enjoying it a fair amount. It has a quirky side to it so far that I like. Besides that I have been working on some crafts which seems to be the important thing right now, ebbs and flows like that. I have also been watching the Olympics.

Now usually I am not a huge sports person I would rather watch something educational then watch people chase a ball or what have you around, but there is something about the Olympics that I really enjoy. I suppose like many it is because I feel that swell of country pride when the person you want to win an event does.

Anyone else been behind on reading due to the Olympics?

The Sunday Salon 2/9/14

Another busy day and another day where I will not be reading much. I am barely staying on track with my goals for reading this year, but I am trying not to stress about it because I still have a lot of year left so there is no reason to get all up tight about things, right?

In the mean time and I do promise next week I will give something a bit better for my Sunday salon. Lets wish a Happy Birthday to Tom Hiddleston.

The Sunday Salon 1/26/14

Happy Sunday to everyone and I hope that yours is going well. I have had another one of those weeks where I feel like I am behind on everything. You see I tend to schedule my posts in advance usually I will use a Sunday or Monday to do this, I can’t do all of them but I can do a lot of them. Alas this week I just did not seem to get any of them scheduled and that left me feeling lagging and slow behind. Hopefully this week will be better as far as that goes!

On a reading level the week was also a bit poor I read one very short little novella. It counts of course and it is better then many do but it leaves me feeling a little bit like “Oh you bad reader you!”. One of my goals for the year is not to beat myself up over the small stuff so I am going to try not to and just roll with it. Today as a Sunday is going to be a day for reading (I hope) at least in-between some of my busy projects. For most Sunday is a day of rest it never tends to be for me, it is a day of get a bunch of stuff ready and prepped for the week. Ah the joys of being self employed!

On that note I am going to leave you all with a little bit of Fire…for a Sunday which is going to be cold for many, the blog is after all called Fire and Ice right? 😉

Hello Sunday it is nice to see you again, I have had a productive week in many arenas including reading. I finished two books which normally is not a big deal I have done it before but recently I have been so busy with so much else my reading is slower. I always make time to read at least a page but sometimes lately it has been just that a page.

In other fun news I am making my first crochet scarf. My fingers are cramped and not happy and hurt but I am seeing real progress on my scarf and I can not wait to wear it. I know it is not reading related but it makes me happy to know I am going to be getting my skills up to snuff in crochet. First a scarf and then probably a blanket! Worst of that is I want to make a Loki blanket and will probably get razzed because the colors will be Green and Gold..also happen to be the colors of the Green Bay Packers (BOOO HISS), of course one could argue that there is green and gold in the Minnesota Wild Jerseys too, right? I will probably also make a Colts colored one for the hubby at some point, ah look at me planning away and I don’t even have my scarf half done.

I am going to be starting reading Nordic fairies soon and I am looking forward to that I got it as an Amazon freebie so it will also be a good challenge book along with peeking my interest. Keep on moving along, 2014 and  me are friends right now, really I am enjoying the year. Stuff has happened and it has not been perfect by any means but so far so good and I am enjoying all of my goals and everything I am doing.

The Sunday Salon 1/12/13

Another Sunday and another stupidly busy week for me. I have not gotten nearly enough reading done and it is not the book I am readings fault. I am hoping to finish it today, but who knows what will happen.

Sadly we had some events happen that while not deathly or anything have been a pain in the ass. The biggest one was a pipe in the garage burst and when I walked out there was at least 2 inches of water along most of the floor. Thankfully it was a line that went to the outside and the only damage was the mess and a few of my envelope supplies. Then when trying to go to the DMV here to get some stuff taken care of what I was told we needed was not enough, always fun.

My husband who I love dearly was being a beast and in walmart ran our cart into some people in the isle. Yes they were blocking the isle but come on two wrongs do not make a right. I said I am sorry to the people as we went past, then he went and smarted off…which set off the older lady. She got loud and obnoxious and called him a rude Bastard and such. I managed to get the situation calmed down but come on I shouldn’t have had too. Also ended up not getting the veggies I was after a minor thing but really.

So sadly not much reading done, but today I am going to be trying my level best to finish my book or at least make some good progress on it.

Sunday Salon 1/5/14

The first Sunday of the brand new year and what a starting week it has been around here. I have gotten one book finished so far and started another, Eire’s Viking. I was really excited to get this one although I have to admit I have not been able to give it the attention that I want yet. I am hoping that Monday I will be able to dedicate time to it because I am going to be slammed down with work stuff again this Sunday. Sometimes being a freelance self-employed person means you don’t get a weekend off like everyone else does, and I am okay with that.

In other news I got a copy of Revolutionary in the mail as well and let me tell you I can’t wait to start reading that one in fact I ended up bumping the three or four other books I had lined up and planned to read in honor of the new fresh shinny book. I know not very fair of me those other books were for my TBR challenge and have been sitting on my shelves for years, but what can I say I am a sucker for the time period and the book looks really good.

I hope that all of my other reading friends out there have a fantastic Sunday and that they are staying warm. I am worried about my friends who are getting cold snaps. It is colder then normal here as well and I have heard we are due a little bit of snow, which people are panicking for and buying staples and essentials. We are talking 1-2 inches of snow here so my brain says “not much nope…no thanks. I am still going to do my shopping and errands as usual.”
