Booking Through Thursday – Unknown Favorite

Who’s your favorite author that other people are NOT reading? The one you want to evangelize for, the one you would run popularity campaigns for? The author that, so far as you’re concerned, everyone should be reading–but that nobody seems to have heard of. You know, not JK Rowling, not Jane Austen, not Hemingway–everybody’s heard of them. The author that you think should be that famous and can’t understand why they’re not

Oh, this could be a couple of authors for me. Lauren Willig comes to mind. Nancy Moser is another one. And P.C and Kristin Cast. These are all authors I truly enjoy with books I love. I want to run around and tell everyone to read them and than tell the Hollywood people to make some movies.

He pushed himself up from the bed and started to walk away than stopped. Why the hell was he giving up so easily? ~ Pg. 77 Big Girls Don’t Cry by Donna Hill, Brenda Jackson, Monica Jackson & Francis Ray

Book Review: The Night Gardener by George Pelecanos

In this 13th novel, George Pelecanos returns to the gritty streets of Washington, D.C.—a far cry from Georgetown and Capitol Hill—at the top of his game. Critics agree that Night Gardener transcends the crime-novel genre. While it contains whodunit elements, it’s much more about crime, criminal motivation, and the souls of everyone involved. Authentic descriptions of Washington’s urban landscape, the compelling characters, and the story line’s immediacy make Night Gardener one of the author’s best to date. A few critics noted a meandering plot and stylistic quirks (the victims’ names are all palindromes), but most agreed that Night Gardener “is heart-in-your-throat gripping from beginning to end”

This was a bit of a return to the genre for me and the first book by this Author I have read. I felt a little bit out of my comfort when I first started reading simply because it has been a while since I have firmly looked into this genre. I used to read crime novels all the time.

Overall, I have to say I enjoyed the book. There was a large cast of characters and they were on occasion hard to keep straight, but for the most part, they were well explained. Some of them were likeable and several were not very likeable. That is a sign of a true to life book; you can never like everybody all the time.

Overall, the book is well rounded and well written. I wish I had read it when I first got it and did the giveaway. However, I got to it now and it was a great January book.

Musing Monday #36

I have to say, I got a giggle today I misplaced my link for Musing Monday and when I googled it my Blog came up in the 3rd spot for Musing Monday’s. I know it is not a major thing but it made me do a happy smile dance. And I am now using the new button that won the poll on the site. Now onto my Muse..

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about tidy reading around people.

When is it inappropriate to read in front of others? Is it ever appropriate?

This is an interesting one. I have no issue reading in public. When I took the bus, I read while waiting for it. Could not read on the bus because I got motion sick, but I would if I could have. I read while waiting for someone to pick me up or when I drove more of course while waiting for others. I will read when camping out with friends, I will read just about anytime.

There are exceptions of course. Like when camping if everyone else is talking, I join in the conversation it is only when everyone is either settling in for sleep, or doing their own reading that I will take out my book and read. If I have house company I wont read unless they are reading as well. Because I find it just a little rude. Therefore, I think its fine to read in front of others you should just use your ettiquete judgment.

The Sunday Salon #16

The Sunday Salon.com

It is Sunday again it is hard to believe how fast 2010 is going, I think I still write 2009 on two letters I wrote this week oppsy. Oh well I will get used to it eventually. Yesterday was a bad sleep day and I ended up not getting to sleep until around 4pm or so, and than waking up pretty late. Which was alright to do anyways because my hubby was working all morning he came home for a short period of time and than he had a concert so he was off doing that?

I have had a decent week, sick wise it was a little bad because I was not feeling well. But emotional wise I managed to keep me up. I finished a short story for my Marked Ambrosia site and that turned out pretty well. Not my best work but certainly not my worst.

I also completed 5 letters to Pen Pals 4 were replies and 1 one as an introduction letter with me starting first. I am going to find some more pen pals to write to as I found the letter writing very therapeutic. I just felt good to be writing letters again and than when I got to use my sealing wax that helped as well. Very much.

Presently I am watching Transamerica it is a very interesting movie. It is about the journey that a Transgender person takes on their way to get their gender reassignment surgery. Along the way Sabrina finds out that she has a Son. Its interesting to be sure.

Happy Sunday.

Quotable Sunday #21

Mothers Day Gift Ideas

This week, Missing you Quotes.

You never know what you have until you lose it, and once you lose it, you can never get it back.

The worst way to miss someone is when they are right beside you and yet you know you can never have them.

Love is missing someone whenever you’re apart, but some how feeling warm inside because you’re close in heart.

I might not get to see you as often as I’d like, I may not get to hold you in my arms at night, but deep in my heart I know that it’s true. No matter what happens… I will always love you.

I’m holding on to something that used to be there hoping it will come back, knowing it won’t.

If you love someone more then anything, then distance only matters to the mind, not to the heart.

I want to be with you tonight, tomorrow, and today it can’t happen now but it will someday.

Nothing hurts more then waiting since I don’t even know what I’m waiting for anymore.

And if you were to say ‘come with me’, even now I might go.

I have waited for you for 2 years and I will wait for you for the rest of my life. Even if that means I have to give you up for the rest of my life, I will wait for you. I love you that much and nothing will ever change that.

Can miles truly separate you…? If you want to be with someone you love, aren’t you already there?

You know you love someone when the mere thought of losing them brings you to tears.

I wish that I could hold you now… I wish that I could touch you now… I wish that I could talk to you… be with you somehow.

Distance between two hearts is not an obstacle… rather a beautiful reminder of just how strong true love can be.

A lot of people walk in and out of my life, but… you’re one of the only ones I ever really wanted to stick around.

Just because I moved on doesn’t mean I won’t be here if you change your mind.

Maybe he’s doing the same thing as me… maybe he wants so bad to call me, but just won’t because I haven’t called him… then again, maybe I shouldn’t fill myself with false hope that he might just be missing me like I’m missing him.

You asked me what was wrong, I smiled and said nothing, when you turned around and a tear came down and I whispered to myself… everything is.

Saturday Sanctuary #10

The Saturday Sanctuary will be a Weekly Writing Post. I will ask something or give a topic. Sometimes it will be short, sometimes it might be longer. The idea is just to write! So others can read. I thought it would be a great idea for a Book Blog to do something about writing. We are bloggers after all so we must have some enjoyment of writing too! So hop on in and Join the Saturday Sanctuary, grab our link and our picture and post your replies here. Make sure you visit others blogs out there and leave comments. Mostly have fun.

What makes you Smile?

I can admit that it does not take much to make me smile. A thoughtful word, a thoughtful email. A good book. But most of all I smile when I get mail. I know it sounds silly but I really love mail. I am not talking about junk mailers, or bills. Because who smiles when they get those kind of things. But when I get a letter, or a postcard!

I have started collecting Postcards so when I get one that really makes me smile. Especially when I get one for the states that I still need. But really I love all postcards to me they are like little bits of art in my mailbox.

Letters also make me smile. Especially because I have started pen paling again. And yesterday I got three letters in the mail! That really did make me happy. I have written some replies and am eager to work on more. But my hand is all cramped up! To much typing and not enough writing lately, HA HA.

The Crime Scene was in the Low 30’s around E, on the edge of Fort Dupont Park, in a Neighborhood known as Greenway, in the 6th District section of Southeast D.C. ~ The Night Gardener by George Pelecanos

Well the first sentance here showed me exactly where things are located which is always good for a story. And now I want to contiune on to see what else we have to see.

But her arrival brings about more mayhem than even Ruth is used to. She soon meets Josh McCain, the son of her father’s business partner, but discovers some startling news: Her father passed away years ago. And though Josh urges Ruth to claim her inheritance, he grows suspicious of something more sinister at hand when her “accidents” seem to go beyond Ruth’s normal bumbling ways and leave her very life in danger.
