How can it be June already? This year just seems to be flying by way to fast. Seems like yesterday it was January and I was in Daytona. Here we are though summer is almost here. Kids are out of school and I am in full working on a cross country move mode. EEK. That said I am working hard on reading more to calm down and I am almost caught up on reviews. Yay!

Ambrosia’s little note:

I hope that everyone had a good Memorial Day weekend. I spent a lot of time reflecting on the men and women who have given their lives in honor of our freedom. Because of this reflection I was reminded, freedom has a very high cost that is not always acknowledged. So I want to give a heart felt thank you to all of our armed forces. Besides that fact, my dad is a retired Marine so I learned to respect our armed forces at an early age. I know the climate is all over the place these days about armed forces and police etc. and I won’t preach here about it.

I just want to say one thing. Whether you agree with a war or not, support them men and women who are sent to fight it. They aren’t the ones who make the choice to go to war, they are following orders. They make the choice to sign up to protect the rest of us and lay down their life for us if they have to. Above All that is something noble and they should be thanked for it.

Ambrosia’s little note:

I want to thank everyone who participated last week and for the kind comments about the new look of the blog. It’s been kinda fun to revamp things a bit. .

I do want to note one thing about when you don’t see your comment come up right away. I have software that looks for spam comments and will automatically put them in Spam. Sometimes the software isn’t sure about a comment so it will place it into the pending spot, which means I have to manually go through and approve it or mark it as spam. This pending spot is where posts that don’t appear right away are. I check in as much as I can to approve as fast as I can, but somedays I can’t be glued to my computer. Trust me if I didn’t have this spam software on, there would be thousands of pointless comments weighing down the blog.

Ambrosia’s little note:

Welcome to Tuesday again. You may be looking around and noticing a bit of a change to the theme here. I am still doing some tweaks and adding bits back in but for the most part, Welcome to the new look of The Purple Booker. I hope you like it, I felt it was a bit cleaner and more modern to go this route. I still have a few little tricks up my sleeve though. I had hoped to have everything done by today but there have been a few delays.

Ambrosia’s little note:

Tuesday, Tuesday, Tuesday! There is my impression of the Sunday, Sunday, Sunday guy, meanwhile people have run for the hills. LOL. I hope everyone is well this week and life is treating you kindly. Similarly, has anyone else noticed the year fly by? Firstly, its hard to believe it is May already! Secondly, I had a birthday Saturday and it took that for me to really pause for a moment. Consequently, I then went, wow where has the year gone so far? Above all, I also pulled out the trusty Wonder Woman planner and made a big note to self, that says remember to enjoy yourself more.

I often have a hard time remembering to take time away from the hustle and stress of things, and remember to do self care things. Self care things of course which include read more. I used to “chew through” books so fast, now I feel bad for my TBR and even my currently reading books sometimes, because they don’t get the attention they deserve.

Sorry if that got a little heavy for Tuesday, what can I say I start babbling sometimes when the time comes to prepare this post for everyone. One step I took to take a baby step towards more ME time was to pop on one of my favorite Audio books while I’m working, and while I have read/listened to this series a lot I still adore it every time I dive in and I am always happy when I get to share a teaser from this series.

Tuesday is here again. I hope everyone is having a good week so far and had a good week last week. I know it doesn’t always seem like it, because life is giving me lots of lemons to make lemonade with right now and I don’t have the time I wish I did for blogging like I used too. BUT, I really do love this blog and community. I look forward to making this post every week, I truly do. I read every reply and check out everyone’s teasers, even if I don’t manage to reply to everyone because of time. I just wanted to let you guys know that I do look and I do enjoy being able to host this weekly post.

A brand new computer to have fun on and so celebrate I have also started a brand new book. This one was just recommended on Kindle and I said, well what the heck let’s give it a go! So far so good.

“Could she really do it? Could she really go all that way by herself? Yes, she whispered, of course you can do it: you’re thirty-eight years old and you’re not going to the moon, just to Baghdad. The word sounded the way a shiver felt. At the dinner party in London it had been a shiver of excitement, but now it held a frisson of dread.” ~ The Woman on the Orient Express by Lindsay Jayne Ashford

The holiday buzz is all around lately! This time of year is always a whirlwind for me. I feel like it has been nothing but work work work for a while now. I am looking forward to my short get away over Christmas time. I am hoping to use that period of time to do some organzing, catch up on the book reviews for this blog (I have been so so very behind) and making a schedule to keep to for posting on my other blogs as well. I miss blogging, but I won’t go into that to deeply at the moment. It is Teaser Tuesday! I have finished my book challenge for the year, but I am still reading as I have time to.

I have posted a few teasers from the two books I still have on my nightstand as my current reads, so this week I have decided to pull a teaser from my TBR for you, so it is a different book.

“The chowdry, or burqa — the Saudi, North African, and Central Asian version of the head, face, and body shroud — is a sensory deprivation isolation chamber. It is claustrophobic, may lead to anxiety and depression, and reinforces a woman’s already low self-esteem. It may also lead to vitamin D deficiency diseases such as osteoporosis and heart disease. Sensory deprivation officially constitutes torture and is practiced as such in the world’s prisons.” An American Bride in Kabul by Phyllis Chesler

Anyone else feeling a little overwhelmed with the end of year stuff? I know I am. I am also feelig a bit daunted as just a few days into the new year I am going to be doing a big convention as a vendor eeek.

“Folk tell their children that success lies in working hard and being thrifty, but that is as much nonsense as supposing that a badger, a fox and a wolf could build a church. The way to wealth is to become a Christian bishop or a monastery’s abbot and thus be imbued with heaven’s permission to lie, cheat and steal your way to luxury.” ― Bernard Cornwell, The Burning Land

I feel like I had a moment of adult level up yesterday! My poor mail and UPS man were not nearly as excited about this as I was *LOL* imagine a new mattress, 3 sets of sheets, pillows etc. all arriving via post. Then add in a whole slew of supplies for a small business prepping for a huge convention in January. Yeah that was me yesterday, LOL. The bed is like sleeping on the most comfortable cloud ever. Needless to say I have a pile of fur balls sharing as well. Diva didn’t even let me get the sheets on before she tested out the new mattress. Funny note that goes with this, I was feeling slightly silly and yet also very adult by also ordering a mattress protector for my new bed. I mean you should protect your purchase right? And full confession here I eat in bed and yes things get spilled and sometimes a sick or baby fur love or two legger, well you know how it goes. Then I had a moment of fear after it shipped that I had just ordered one of those plastic things that your parents put on the bed when you were little JUST IN CASE for the bed wetting and I was like oh gods…..now I am like an adult baby or something. Blessedly the mattress protector is not one of those LOL it is actually kind of nice and protects against mites and all those other things you don’t want around. So….adult level up? Yeah? Anyways on to the part you are here for..LOL the Teaser.

This week is a long one, because the first is just so funny and because the second I am including is one of my favorite passages in this book, I am re-reading in honor of The Last Kingdom Season 3. Some books need more then one, right?

“You’re a bastard,” I said.

“Uhtred,” he began, but could find nothing more to say.

“You’re a piece of weasel-shit,” I said, “you’re an earsling.”

“I’m a king,” he said, trying to regain his dignity.

“So you’re a royal piece of weasel-shit. An earsling on a throne.”
― Bernard Cornwell, Lords of the North

“I am no Christian. These days it does no good to confess that, for the bishops and abbots have too much influence and it is easier to pretend to a faith than to fight angry ideas. I was raised a Christian, but at ten years old, when I was taken into Ragnar’s family, I discovered the old Saxon gods who were also the gods of the Danes and of the Norsemen, and their worship has always made more sense to me than bowing down to a god who belongs to a country so far away that I have met no one who has ever been there. Thor and Odin walked our hills, slept in our valleys, loved our women and drank from our streams, and that makes them seem like neighbours. The other thing I like about our gods is that they are not obsessed with us. They have their own squabbles and love affairs and seem to ignore us much of the time, but the Christian god has nothing better to do than to make rules for us. He makes rules, more rules, prohibitions and commandments, and he needs hundreds of black-robed priests and monks to make sure we obey those laws. He strikes me as a very grumpy god, that one, even though his priests are forever claiming that he loves us. I have never been so stupid as to think that Thor or Odin or Hoder loved me, though I hope at times they have thought me worthy of them.”
