Musing Monday 8/26/13

Musing Monday is hosted over at Should Be Reading.

Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…

• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.
• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!
• Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!

Do you ever go through reading slumps? When you look at your books and you know you want to read them and yet none of them call out to you, and just you realize you don’t really feel like reading to much at the moment? I am in a slump right now. I am actually really wanting to start the Miners Lady on some levels but I keep finding other things to do and not getting to the book. Overall my brain just keeps saying “don’t read right now do something else” it happens once in a while when I have been doing a lot of steady reads. Anyone else or am I the odd book worm?

My muse today is a pretty simple one. Are there any books that you wish would be made into movies? Oh but not just movies epic 18-20 hour ones that are perfectly cast? I can think of many yes I can MANY….presently I am pondering the whole Cynster series…

Do you ever have that moment when you look at your very large (or maybe not very) To Read pile and go…”I have nothing to read?”

Do you have a set way that you chose between reading your hard copy books or e-reader books? I usually try to read one hard copy then one e-reader ect but the last couple have been on the Kindle. I feel like I am being a little unfair to my huge shelves full of hard copy books.

What do you do after an emotional read? Do you dive into another big deep read or do you settle for some fluff? I just finished a big one and while I have two lined up as my currently reading books one is deeper and one is decidedly more fluffy, and I am a bit torn on which one to go with next.

Read-a-Thon do you do them or don’t you? I have been thinking of doing one for myself this summer and maybe making it something Invite others too. I have seen other people doing them over the years since I started blogging. I have not been able to take part in any though. So do you take part in them? And when you do..do you caffeine yourself up and not sleep? Or set a schedule?

I am sure I have covered this one before but it has come up again. I know that an advanced copy is going to have some mistakes, but really do they even look at them at ALL before release them? The last couple of Ebooks I have been reading that were advanced to me (which I am grateful for) have once again been so covered in mistakes it makes them hard to read. Thankfully in the ones I have been reading recently it seems to be mostly a case of missing certain letters like F and not as bad as some others in the past, but I mean come on.

My muse this week is do you go through certain reading trends when your reading? I am currently on a little bit of a Tudor spin of reading reading my third in the line of Tudor era books. I sometimes go through these spurts of only wanting to read books from a certain era or genre.

This week I am not doing the usual Muse of books and everything. Instead I am saying a Happy Memorial Day and Thank you to all who lost lives defending freedom. Also I am posting something my friend Missy Posted today as a muse.

Memorial Day: the day set aside to honor the MEMORIES of those who lost their lives in, or as a result of, service to our country. (And let’s not forget that those whose service resulted in PTSD and who take their own lives because of it, fall into this category.)

Veterans Day: the day set aside to honor ALL veterans, both living and dead, both peacetime and wartime, who served honorably for our country.

Armed Forces Day: the day set aside to honor all CURRENT/ACTIVE-DUTY serving members of the armed forces.

Why am I posting this? Because our nation has come to also use this day to honor and recognize ALL veterans both of peacetime and wartime. Of this category I know many, including family members (I even married a vet). I celebrate them on Veterans Day.

And while I will not refuse to acknowledge and honor any who served, *today* is for those who lost their lives and the family and friends of those who mourn for those who, in the end, did give the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Their grief and loss *deserves* its own day.

My thanks and honor today go to those who lost their lives in, or as a result of, service. You gave the ultimate sacrifice, as did your families and friends.

This is a new one for me but here we go with a Bookish rant. Recently an Author I did a review for that did not go up on this site but elsewhere took a comment that I had in my review and said “this is inaccurate and almost a spoiler”. Well my first thought to that was “um isn’t my interpretation of the book mine? And ya know my comments mine?” my second thought was “How can something be in accurate AND a spoiler?”

I mean something that is not accurate can not possibly be a spoiler can it? Or am I just like completely wrong in my muse on this one. This comment also lead her to accuse me of not reading the book…and just posting a review. Because yes I have so much time to just write up random reviews (not).

The even funnier thing? It was a positive review. 4 stars.
