Random weekly question: Have you ever chosen a book, mostly because of its cover art, and then regretted it because the content didn’t live up to your expectations?

*Hangs her head* Sadly..I must admit that yes. Yes I have done this more then once actually which is the very sad thing.

Teaser Tuesday 10/27/15

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along with Teaser Tuesday! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

“Your emotions reveal where to direct and release energy as needed because the letting go of separation-based feelings returns you to a higher state of Love. Your ultimate power and higher levels of consciousness are found in the ownership of all of your energies and experiences, dear one. You can deny your feelings, and thus deny your power and continue with unconscious actions. Or you can own all of it, love yourself more, and be a conscious creator with all of your energy.” ~ The Art of Trapeze: One Woman’s Journey of Soaring, Surrendering, and Awakening (Awakening Consciousness Series, #1) by Molly McCord

Do you read any horror, or something scary, in honor of Halloween? Why, or why not?

No I don’t because I just tend to read whatever is interesting to me at the time. I did in the past try to read things for the season, Christmas and the like but it didn’t really work out. I do naturally seem to get a little more in the vampire mood for October though.

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: What fictional character would you enjoy meeting? Why?

This is an interesting question and I really do have to sit back and think about it. There are a lot of fictional characters that I would like to have a chance to meet. If I could only pick one I think I would pick Henrietta Selwick from the Pink Carnation series. There is something about her that just sticks out in my mind I would love to talk with her and go on an adventure around Regency England or France.

The random thoughts of a Sunday…

Bear with me a moment, dear readers, as we take a small break from the books to talk about one of the many tools used to write them. Pens. If you know me (and most of you do) you know that I love Pens of all kinds and often write things long hand you also know that I have a small Etsy shop for handmade goods and I have been looking for some affordable ways of promotion for the shop. It occurred to me that promotional twist pens might be a great way to go about advertising the shop. It would allow me to combine my love of pens (really you should see me when school supplies are out!) with the need for some affordable and solid promotion. After looking around a little bit on the web I found that there are some cheap pens at PenFactory.com that I think will work out very nicely. Not only are they affordable but I really do like the look of their twist promotional pens and they come in such a fun variety of colors. You know I am going to get purple for Creations of Bastet how could I not?

Thank you for tuning into my muse and back to your regularly scheduled book reviews.

Booking through Thursday 10/15/15

This one is Hosted at the Booking through Thursday Blog.

A little late again but here we go.

Do you have people you can talk to about books you’ve read? Share delight in plot twists, explore how much fun it was, or how badly written?

I do have people I can talk about books with. Some are more enthusiastic then others about it but they do listen either way. I love when I can share a book I have read with someone who has also read it. I love being able to see what we agree on and what we disagree on within the books.

Book Review: Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed

Wild

#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER, SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE.
At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State — and she would do it alone.
Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.

This book made me want to sit down on the floor and sob and sob and sob and sob (anyone who has read this book will understand that seems to be how Cheryl describes everything) the book is TERRIBLE. Who would go and hike the PCT with no preparation? The fact that this woman did not end up dead due to lack of preparation is amazing. Of course, many who have actually hiked the trail think she just hitch hiked most of it. She admits to a fair amount of hitch hiking anyway and a great many things she says do not add up.

This book was a terrible bore to get through because it is just that bad. I do not for one second think she detoxed from the heroin she was supposedly doing on the trail. Of course I also do not think she almost stepped on a rattle snake several times and got all the special help she got for being a “bad ass chic hiking the PCT.” You wanna know what this book is about? The author pretty much says she screwed up her life by cheating on a perfectly nice husband (lots of times) so off she goes to the PCT. On the trail she is the only woman and she is so pretty and everyone is always looking at her, flirting with her and doing things for her because she is so pretty. She thinks everyone wants to have sex with her and some of them are kind of rapey. The end.

This book is just not worth it really not worth it. It is not empowering or life changing either because I don’t think she learned a damn thing on her supposed hike.

My Gemstone Rating:

Anne sighed. In spite of repeated and often heated denials, George continued to believe she had betrayed him with Will Compton, and perhaps the King, too. ~ Pg. 182 At the Kings Pleasure by Kate Emerson

I know I have bee reading this one for a while and I am very much behind (5 books) on my book challenge and even more so on posting my reviews. That said I am making an amend to that this week. I am going to make a better schedule of my time and try to make more room for my blogs and reading. It is not as if I haven’t been doing anything at all. It just has revolved mostly around work and crochet.

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: What fictional world would you love to live in, even if just for a day?

This is a tough one. I think right now “gun to my head” I would say Middle Earth. It seems like such a fantastic beautiful place. Sure it has a lot of war but so do we here in our own world. Yeah Middle Earth and I would love to hang out with the riders of Rohan.
