The holiday buzz is all around lately! This time of year is always a whirlwind for me. I feel like it has been nothing but work work work for a while now. I am looking forward to my short get away over Christmas time. I am hoping to use that period of time to do some organzing, catch up on the book reviews for this blog (I have been so so very behind) and making a schedule to keep to for posting on my other blogs as well. I miss blogging, but I won’t go into that to deeply at the moment. It is Teaser Tuesday! I have finished my book challenge for the year, but I am still reading as I have time to.

I have posted a few teasers from the two books I still have on my nightstand as my current reads, so this week I have decided to pull a teaser from my TBR for you, so it is a different book.

“The chowdry, or burqa — the Saudi, North African, and Central Asian version of the head, face, and body shroud — is a sensory deprivation isolation chamber. It is claustrophobic, may lead to anxiety and depression, and reinforces a woman’s already low self-esteem. It may also lead to vitamin D deficiency diseases such as osteoporosis and heart disease. Sensory deprivation officially constitutes torture and is practiced as such in the world’s prisons.” An American Bride in Kabul by Phyllis Chesler

Anyone else feeling a little overwhelmed with the end of year stuff? I know I am. I am also feelig a bit daunted as just a few days into the new year I am going to be doing a big convention as a vendor eeek.

“Folk tell their children that success lies in working hard and being thrifty, but that is as much nonsense as supposing that a badger, a fox and a wolf could build a church. The way to wealth is to become a Christian bishop or a monastery’s abbot and thus be imbued with heaven’s permission to lie, cheat and steal your way to luxury.” ― Bernard Cornwell, The Burning Land

Short, sweet and true this week, lol.

“Love is a dangerous thing. It comes in disguise to change our life… Lust is the deceiver. Lust wrenches our lives until nothing matters except the one we think we love, and under that deceptive spell we kill for them, give all for them, and then, when we have what we have wanted, we discover that it is all an illusion and nothing is there. Lust is a voyage to nowhere, to an empty land, but some men just love such voyages and never care about the destination. Love is a voyage too, a voyage with no destination except death, but a voyage of bliss.”― Bernard Cornwell, Sword Song

I feel like I had a moment of adult level up yesterday! My poor mail and UPS man were not nearly as excited about this as I was *LOL* imagine a new mattress, 3 sets of sheets, pillows etc. all arriving via post. Then add in a whole slew of supplies for a small business prepping for a huge convention in January. Yeah that was me yesterday, LOL. The bed is like sleeping on the most comfortable cloud ever. Needless to say I have a pile of fur balls sharing as well. Diva didn’t even let me get the sheets on before she tested out the new mattress. Funny note that goes with this, I was feeling slightly silly and yet also very adult by also ordering a mattress protector for my new bed. I mean you should protect your purchase right? And full confession here I eat in bed and yes things get spilled and sometimes a sick or baby fur love or two legger, well you know how it goes. Then I had a moment of fear after it shipped that I had just ordered one of those plastic things that your parents put on the bed when you were little JUST IN CASE for the bed wetting and I was like oh gods…..now I am like an adult baby or something. Blessedly the mattress protector is not one of those LOL it is actually kind of nice and protects against mites and all those other things you don’t want around. So….adult level up? Yeah? Anyways on to the part you are here for..LOL the Teaser.

This week is a long one, because the first is just so funny and because the second I am including is one of my favorite passages in this book, I am re-reading in honor of The Last Kingdom Season 3. Some books need more then one, right?

“You’re a bastard,” I said.

“Uhtred,” he began, but could find nothing more to say.

“You’re a piece of weasel-shit,” I said, “you’re an earsling.”

“I’m a king,” he said, trying to regain his dignity.

“So you’re a royal piece of weasel-shit. An earsling on a throne.”
― Bernard Cornwell, Lords of the North

“I am no Christian. These days it does no good to confess that, for the bishops and abbots have too much influence and it is easier to pretend to a faith than to fight angry ideas. I was raised a Christian, but at ten years old, when I was taken into Ragnar’s family, I discovered the old Saxon gods who were also the gods of the Danes and of the Norsemen, and their worship has always made more sense to me than bowing down to a god who belongs to a country so far away that I have met no one who has ever been there. Thor and Odin walked our hills, slept in our valleys, loved our women and drank from our streams, and that makes them seem like neighbours. The other thing I like about our gods is that they are not obsessed with us. They have their own squabbles and love affairs and seem to ignore us much of the time, but the Christian god has nothing better to do than to make rules for us. He makes rules, more rules, prohibitions and commandments, and he needs hundreds of black-robed priests and monks to make sure we obey those laws. He strikes me as a very grumpy god, that one, even though his priests are forever claiming that he loves us. I have never been so stupid as to think that Thor or Odin or Hoder loved me, though I hope at times they have thought me worthy of them.”

“He may be incensed, said Dizzy. I’ve never doubted the old parson’s faith, but it has no place in politics. Last week’s quote was a bit dark I know, sorry if it upset anyone a bit. It is real life for sure though. I’ll be posting my review for that book soon, it really is a great book.

So funny story about this weeks quote. I picked up a copy of this book at Half Price bookshop when I was visiting my Mom. I forgot….I had read this one as the second book in the series. *Insert epic facepalm here* It wasn’t until I started reading it that I went, oh damn, I already read this one ages ago. Whoops. Since I bought the copy I figured I might as well read it again, lol then move to book 3 maybe I will read before for I forget I read book 2 this time, lol.

“But that was life: Nobody got a guided tour to their own theme park. You had to hop on the rides as they presented themselves, never knowing whether you would like the one you were in line for…or if the bastard was going to make you throw up your corn dog and your cotton candy all over the place.” – Crave

Musing Monday 10/29/18

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme that asks you to choose one of the following prompts to answer:

I’m currently reading…
Up next I think I’ll read…
I bought the following book(s) in the past week…
I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…
I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…
I can’t wait to get a copy of…
I wish I could read ___, but…
I blogged about ____ this past week…

This week’s random question: What is one over-hyped book that you’ve heard so much about but strongly dislike?

This is one of those questions I usually avoid because people can be very passionate about it. I know I can be passionate about it, because when I love a book even if it has hype, I love a book. That being said, I must of course answer my question this week, since I chickened out last week, lol.

One book that has been so hyped up that I really just can’t stand is Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed. The movie looked good when it came out and since I took the pledge to read before I watch, of course I got a copy of the book. I really wish I had not. The movie wasn’t fantastic either, but better than the book. I don’t understand the hype at all. The book is boring, it is very clear she did not do as much walking on the trail as she claimed and she made me not like snapple lemonade which was one of my favorite lemonades. I have to stop myself from going on more now, LOL I really am passionate about not liking the book. I don’t hold back much in my review about it either. So how about you?

Just finishing this one up now. It is a good one and I think everyone should read it, especially for anyone who is enjoying the show based on it now, New Amsterdam.

“Okay. Bring it on.” His wife attaches the syringe to the plastic outlet on the tube that dangles from just above his belly button—her first time feeding him, and pours in the Ensure. He holds her hand as the liquid goes in. “Good,” I say. “You’ll both have to learn how to do the feedings and look after the equipment. It’s not hard. You’ll get the hang of it. Small amounts six times a day and slow feeds overnight by the pump. That’s it.”
