Can you hear the bells yet?

The time of year that everyone (but me) seems to love is right around the corner. As soon as the Halloween decor came out of course so did the Christmas items. That is one of the biggest reasons I have issues with Christmas, every year they seem to put out the decorations earlier and earlier and intruding upon my favorite holiday. With all of that said, I am trying really trying this year to get into the spirit and enjoy. I gave my word that I would try.

Of course I make most of my holiday items by hand, anyone who has taken a look at Creations of Bastet has seen how obsessive I can be about my handmade items, I just love them. However, I also know there are somethings I just can’t make on my own, sure would be fun if I could! I have a lot of musicians in my life and there is no way I can make instruments or most of the things that go with them. Luckily I can shop at musiciansfriend.com for everything that I need for the musicians in my life. Then I can go ahead and make a fun crochet guitar strap or some other fun accessory that goes with the instruments. See I can still work my own fun obsessions in with things I can’t make myself.

You better work!

Insert snappy fun fingers here, but all kidding aside, this is a new age of work and some of the best jobs are a form of online work. Whether you are marketing yourself as a blogger or influencer or working to get your company going the place to do it now is online.

Yes, there is still a place for face to face networking and having business cards, but the majority of marketing in today’s society needs to take place on the world wide web. We are a society that is constantly connected via computers, phones and other devices. You really can’t escape it. The tough part of that kind of marketing is there are so many subtle nuances it can be hard to stand our or even know where to start. That is why hiring a professional is always a good way to go. Companies such as Triangle Direct Media know exactly what needs to happen to make your website come up in searches and to get your brand out there. Brand is important and getting your work seen is too!

Strumstick

Everyone knows about guitars and drums but how many people have heard of Strumsticks? The Strumstick is a relatively new instrument in the realm of music, it was invented in 1981 by Bob McNally and was designed as a different version of the Backpacker Guitar. The strumstick is essentially a version of the The Stringed Pennywhistle and is truly a different and fun instrument for those who love something different when it comes to music. Stretch your imagination and play a bit check out the Strumstick!

Studio work

One of the best things about being a musician today is the ability to work in studio space in your own home. It seems like anyone with a good computer and the right tools can produce something right at home. What a wonderful time to live in! Seriously who doesn’t love more music? One of those tools that is great for producing comes from Guitar center, it is reasonably priced and works great this item is the: presonus studiolive 24.4.2. If you are looking for a good mix board this is the right one for you head on over and check it out.

The random thoughts of a Sunday…

Bear with me a moment, dear readers, as we take a small break from the books to talk about one of the many tools used to write them. Pens. If you know me (and most of you do) you know that I love Pens of all kinds and often write things long hand you also know that I have a small Etsy shop for handmade goods and I have been looking for some affordable ways of promotion for the shop. It occurred to me that promotional twist pens might be a great way to go about advertising the shop. It would allow me to combine my love of pens (really you should see me when school supplies are out!) with the need for some affordable and solid promotion. After looking around a little bit on the web I found that there are some cheap pens at PenFactory.com that I think will work out very nicely. Not only are they affordable but I really do like the look of their twist promotional pens and they come in such a fun variety of colors. You know I am going to get purple for Creations of Bastet how could I not?

Thank you for tuning into my muse and back to your regularly scheduled book reviews.

Tis the season

Tis the season where my blogging can get spotty. I hope readers will forgive me for not keeping up the regular stuff as well as usually. I usually go on a hiatus but I am just going to say bottom line, it will be spotty. It is the Holiday season and I have a lot of crafts and other things to do this year for the big season.

I am still having one of these moments..

Hiatus or spotty at best

Well this blog will be going on hiatus or I will be doing posts spotty at best for the foreseeable future. I hate saying it and chances are I will keep up with it better then I htink.

I am in a bit of shock over my personal life right now. Feel like I have been hit with an atom bomb. Just trying to dial back on things while I process. Though I know sometimes routine helps me process. So I may keep up but hey the warning is there.

AC repair

Summer is upon us and most parts of the States and other places are getting very warm. If your AC stops working it can be nearly impossible to focus on anything but how hot you are. The great news for this is that if you need to find find ac repair in Raleigh nc or anywhere else it is perfectly possible to do so and not get overwhelmed. Just make sure you check out the company you will be going with, get some word of mouth testimonials and hopefully you will be basking in the wonderful coolness that is AC before you melt into a puddle.

Or you can always make some nice art…

Prejudice Meets Pride by Rachael Anderson Book CoverPrejudice Meets Pride by Rachael Anderson

After years of pinching pennies and struggling to get through art school, Emma Makie’s hard work finally pays off with the offer of a dream job. But when tragedy strikes, she has no choice but to make a cross-country move to Colorado Springs to take temporary custody of her two nieces. She has no money, no job prospects, and no idea how to be a mother to two little girls, but she isn’t about to let that stop her. Nor is she about to accept the help of Kevin Grantham, her handsome new neighbor, who seems to think she’s incapable of doing anything on her own.
Fun, compelling, and romantic, Prejudice Meets Pride is the story of a guy who thinks he has it all figured out and a girl who isn’t afraid to show him that he doesn’t. It’s about learning what it means to trust, figuring out how to give and to take, and realizing that not everyone gets to pick the person they fall in love with. Sometimes, love picks them.

“You owe me,” Kevin teased, watching her closely for a reaction.

Guilt appeared first, followed by resignation. She placed her cool hand on his arm. “Would you settle for a thank you? That seems to be all I ever say to you, but I don’t have much else to offer.” She looked so tired, defeated even, as though the rigid strength he’d glimpsed earlier was all used up. What had happened? More than ever, he wanted to pull her into his arms and try to coax some of it back. What was it about her that drew him to her? That made her look beautiful, even next to Nicole, and cause Kevin to miss her when she wasn’t around? Why was his heart suddenly racing like a teenager?

“‘Thank you’ works,” he said, his voice husky.

The corners of her mouth lifted slightly before wilting. She dropped her hand and clasped her fingers together. “Before I lose my nerve, I, uh—need to ask you something.”

When she said nothing more, Kevin prodded, “Yes?”

“I was, uh, just wondering if—” Her lips clamped shut as though she couldn’t force herself to say the words. Her fingers fidgeted, and she couldn’t stand still. It was almost comical watching her fight whatever inner battle was going on in her mind.

“Out with it, Emma,” Kevin said as he fought back a smile.

Her eyes met his for a brief moment before looking down at the floor. “Is that job offer still on the table?” she said in a rush, still looking at her feet.

Anxiety flared in Kevin’s gut for a moment, then quieted almost as quickly. Not only was Emma intelligent and confident, but she was strong and good. She’d do fine.

“Yes,” he said firmly. “The offer is definitely still on the table.”

Hopeful eyes turned up to his—eyes brimming with moisture. She threw her arms around Kevin and hugged him tight. For a few shocked moments, he stood there, wondering what to do. Then he wrapped his arms around her the way he’d wanted to do earlier. As she sniffled into his shirt, he rested his chin on her head. Her hair smelled lightly of cherry blossoms, and her body felt soft and strong at the same time. He didn’t want her to pull away.

But she did eventually. Her eyes were bright with a mixture of defeat and relief. Kevin knew it had cost her a lot to ask him that, yet she’d done it. And he knew exactly who she’d done it for.
