Musing Monday 3/4/13

Musing Monday is hosted over at Should Be Reading.

Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…

• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.
• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!
• Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!

My bookish thought today is more of an annoyance really. Why does it seem so many people today do not realize that so many movies are made from books. I mean seriously LOTS of them are. My sister seems to to think most of them aren’t including some pretty epic ones that I thought everyone knew about like LOTR. So yeah there is my bookish huff today.

I am going to highlight a book I am reading again this week because well I can! I am reading Burned by P.C and Kristin Cast, a House of Night Novel.

I am only 10 pages in but I am really enjoying it so far. It has been well over a year since I read my last House of Night Novel, but I have been able to fall in comfortably again with the characters. I needed to refresh myself a little on the situation with Kalona but I am perfectly happy after I did. This may be a Young Adult series but it is really gripping and can hold an Adults attention well I feel.

I suppose the fact that I have had this book for well over a year brings up another habit of mine. When I a series and end up liking it I feel like I have to have the whole series before I can read the next ones. However once I have all of the books I tend to read them slowly. I like to savor them slowly and okay I admit it I worry I will run out of the author does not publish more in the series and then I don’t get to spend more time with the characters. That said I think there are 2 or maybe even 3 books from the House of Night series I do not yet have that come after the one I am reading now. Whoopsy I am slacking!

I am currently reading Witches of East end and I am enjoying it. I am of course having the issue that I do not have as much time as I would like to dedicate to the reading of it. A busy weekend. However I really do enjoy the characters and how Melissa de la Cruz is handling the witches. Hers seem to be more of Goddesses than Witches at least that is the vibe I am getting so far and I like that. Of course any book with someone named Freya is going to be a winner to me.

A habit of mine is if I am on one book for more than *I* feel it should take me to read it I feel guilty. I addressed it in my Sunday Salon that I have been feeling guilty about how long it is taking me to read Daughter of York. I know I don’t need to feel it and I shouldn’t I mean no one is sitting there with a gun saying YOU MUST READ THIS NOW. However I *do* tend to feel guilty I like to read my books at a certain pace. So there is one of my habits. What’s yours?

This week I will cover recent purchases. I know I have mentioned the book before but I am not sure if I mentioned it as a purchase I have some brain bla issues this week (watch I mentioned it like last Monday).

Lily of the Nile. It had an adventure to get to me and I swear I only mention it so much because I am really excited to read it..LOL

Heiress of one empire and prisoner of another, it is up to the daughter of Cleopatra to save her brothers and reclaim what is rightfully hers…

To Isis worshippers, Princess Selene and her twin brother Helios embody the divine celestial pair who will bring about a Golden Age. But when Selene’s parents are vanquished by Rome, her auspicious birth becomes a curse. Trapped in an empire that reviles her heritage and suspects her faith, the young messianic princess struggles for survival in a Roman court of intrigue. She can’t hide the hieroglyphics that carve themselves into her hands, nor can she stop the emperor from using her powers for his own ends. But faced with a new and ruthless Caesar who is obsessed with having a Cleopatra of his very own, Selene is determined to resurrect her mother’s dreams. Can she succeed where her mother failed? And what will it cost her in a political game where the only rule is win-or die?

The second recent purchase was

I got to know this one through a Twitter Blast I did for it and was curious enough to buy it for Kindle and give it a try!

I have started a new habit. Whether that be because of busy time or because I have picked up on a fellow friends OCD about sorting things I am not sure. My latest reading habit is making first a stack of my hard copy books, then a list of my Kindle books that I will be reading next. I have the next 12 or so books sorted out. Now that is not to say I won’t change my mind and go with a different book if I feel like it, but there it is they are sorted.

One good thing about this new sorting is since I am doing blog tours again on a regular basis it is helping me keep my tours sorted. I also have those placed on a google calendar to make sure that I have the reviews scheduled and ready to go in time.

This week I am going to muse about what I am reading right now. I am currently reading Fatality on the Front Page. It is a book that I normally would not have read, because I tend to stay out of the murder/mystery genre. It is not that I do not like mystery’s just for the most they have not appealed to me. I actually chose this one from Net gallery for a very funny reason. It was set in VA. Yes I picked it purely because it was set in my favorite state. Is that bad or what?

However I actually am really enjoying the book and the plot does not strike me as obvious yet. I like that. I would maybe not put it on my all time favorite list but I do really enjoy the book. So thumbs up to that. Welcome to Monday.

I am going to pick another reading habit this week. I like to have noise in the background when I am reading. It can be music or the TV just something that makes noise. It is funny because 9 of 10 times I completely tune out whatever it is, but I just do not feel quite right if I don’t have it. There is one notable exception to this rule, if I am outside reading. Which I plan to do more this year.

One of my reading habits is that I simply MUST have a drink with me when I read. I may not even drink from it but for some reason I really need it to be with me and within distance when I read. No matter where I read I must have the drink with me. When I go on trips via plane or anything else my friends always have a laugh at me because I will purposely buy a drink before I can sit and happily read. I know it is a little weird, but that is my habit. So what’s yours?

I recently bought myself Lily of the Nile. I got it because of my love of Roman and Egyptian history and well I have always loved Antony and Cleopatra. Historical novels that deal with their kids are great because so little is documented about what happened to them. I have not gotten it in the mail yet but you can be assured I am watching my mail man like a hawk.
