Random weekly question: What has been your most favorite book, so far, this year? Why?

This is a tough one because I have been doing a lot of re-reading this year for various reasons. Research for work and enjoyment being the biggest two reasons. If I enjoy a book well enough to re-read it even for work that means it is in one of my favorite piles already. If I picked just one I will go with The Help which I just finished recently. I have loved the movie since it came out but it was one of the few books that I read after I saw the movie. You is smart, you is kind and you is important.

What book (or books) from your childhood do you think about most often? That had the most effect on your life?

Gads, I read so many books when I was younger so it is hard to remember them all. With that said, there are some that were indeed standing out for me. The first being the Three Billy Goats Gruff. This was the very first book I can remember reading and the copy I had was very old at the time I got it. I think it was my Great Grandma Doris’s copy, but I could be wrong about that. It is a story I still love today.

Next would have to be Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer of course. These were the first books that I can fully remember wanting to crawl inside and live in the world for a time. The adventures and the history I just loved it! Oh yes, sure some course language and stuff that is still not polite to say today but the stories were wonderful. On top of that to those who poo poo about the language, yes, it is bad, however, Huck Finn goes against the general mind set of the day with Jim. He loves Jim, Jim is his friend so there.

Next up would be the entire Black Stallion series for me. Another set of books that I wanted to crawl inside of because I wanted to have The Black! I also wanted to have Flame! Now that I am writing about it, I want to read the series again, I can see my first 2016 challenge for myself on the horizon! The Black Stallion series truly cemented my deep love of the Arabian horse. They are such stunning animals and will always be my favorite.

Last but not least I will say Trinity. I know I have mentioned it before and I know I just re-read it again recently there is a reason for that. This was my first very adult very graphic novel and it will stay with me forever. The struggle that goes on in Trinity, the nitty gritty detail of the Irish trying to fight for survival and freedom. It is just an emotional experience. It was not the blood and gore that stuck with me, but the emotion and feeling, the struggle. Really plucked something inside of me.

So there you have my BTT answer hope it did not bore you.

Random weekly question: Do you review books? If so, who do you review for? If not, was it by choice? Why?

Well this is a little bit of a already answered question given the fact that I am answering it on a book review blog. So yes I do write reviews for my books and I do them for a few places, I of course do them here on my own blog and I have also done them for a place called Readers Favorite. Yes it was a choice that I made simply because I enjoy book reviews. When I first started this blog I thought it would be a nice way to challenge myself in my reading and keep track of my reading. Over the years I may have failed at some of my challenges (likely happening again this year) but I always enjoy writing the reviews and doing the weekly Meme’s here on the blog. So overall I am happy that I decided to begin book reviews.

Guitar Strings

Being someone who has several members of family and friends who play guitar I am always keeping my eyes peeled for items I can buy them for Christmas (which is coming up fast!) and other gift giving days. I have found personally one of the best things to give a guitar player is strings because that is something they are always going to need.

The trouble for those who do not know much about music can come when they are trying to decide what kind of strings to get. I have had good luck with getting 11 guage for most of my guitar playing family and friends but try to be a little snoopy if you have to in finding the right kind for them. If you don’t want to go through the trouble of finding out what kind of strings they use go for picks, guitar players also need picks all the time.

Random weekly question: Have you ever chosen a book, mostly because of its cover art, and then regretted it because the content didn’t live up to your expectations?

*Hangs her head* Sadly..I must admit that yes. Yes I have done this more then once actually which is the very sad thing.

“Your emotions reveal where to direct and release energy as needed because the letting go of separation-based feelings returns you to a higher state of Love. Your ultimate power and higher levels of consciousness are found in the ownership of all of your energies and experiences, dear one. You can deny your feelings, and thus deny your power and continue with unconscious actions. Or you can own all of it, love yourself more, and be a conscious creator with all of your energy.” ~ The Art of Trapeze: One Woman’s Journey of Soaring, Surrendering, and Awakening (Awakening Consciousness Series, #1) by Molly McCord

Do you read any horror, or something scary, in honor of Halloween? Why, or why not?

No I don’t because I just tend to read whatever is interesting to me at the time. I did in the past try to read things for the season, Christmas and the like but it didn’t really work out. I do naturally seem to get a little more in the vampire mood for October though.

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: What fictional character would you enjoy meeting? Why?

This is an interesting question and I really do have to sit back and think about it. There are a lot of fictional characters that I would like to have a chance to meet. If I could only pick one I think I would pick Henrietta Selwick from the Pink Carnation series. There is something about her that just sticks out in my mind I would love to talk with her and go on an adventure around Regency England or France.
