THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: Have you ever wanted to become a character in a book so you could actually experience the world you’re reading about?

Now I think it is safe to say no one would like to live in any book by George R R Martin, but have you ever wanted to live in a book? Even it was just for a short period of time. I know there have been a few books especially the historical fictions where I would have loved to turn myself into a person within the book. It doesn’t have to be a character that is already made in the book my own would be great. To walk in another land, another realm even if it is actually our world just in the past sometimes the escape really looks fantastic to me. How about you?

THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: How do you experience a book when you read? In general do you often find yourself being drawn into the story quickly or do you need more time to warm up to characters?

I know that often times how we experience a book is based on the book itself, but I have found over the years that I do tend to have general habits towards a book and I thought others might as well. Honestly more times then not I find myself drawn into the world of the book quickly, which is good because I can get impatient with slow starters. I like to jump in with both feet and just try and picture myself a “fly on the wall” in the characters’ lives. How about you?

THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: Do you prefer plot driven books or character driven books?

Happy December!

A friend and I were having a chat about a recent read, which turned into a little bit of an argument over if it was plot or character driven which lead to this question today! I myself find I prefer character driven books. Don’t get me wrong plot is so important but for me it is the characters that I truly connect with and when I click with them I enjoy the book all the more. I love watching a character grow and change as I follow them through the journey they are taking and perhaps that is why I end up enjoying series so much as well. So how about you?

THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: Do you like all the holiday books turned to movies this time of year?

I know I have asked similar but as I have been watching a few holiday movies and can’t wait to see the man who invented Christmas it was on my mind. As much as I sometimes can be a bit of a bah-humbug about things I actually enjoy a good holiday movie and even more so if its based on a book or about a book. I am really excited about the man who invented Christmas for example because it’s about the author who did seem to invent Christmas as we know it. It looks heart warming and funny as well which always make for a good spirit lift this time of year. It is so easy to feel downcast this time of year. Happens to all of us once in a while but I think these little sparks of good will and warmth help whatever form they come in.

Okay one random little bit of shop keeping as it were before I jump into this weeks Muse. I have noticed since the take over that while Teaser Tuesday still seems to be doing well and healthy, Musing Monday seems to be getting less and less participation. Now I do not want to seem like I am whining I promise I am not, but I have to ask is there something I could do better? Are the questions to boring or different? Or perhaps it is time to retire this weekly meme? I won’t be offended whatever the answers might be. I do just honestly want to make sure everyone is enjoying the memes. Alright with that out of the way on we go.

THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: Do you like or dislike series books?

A friend and I talked about this not to long ago, he does not really like series books were I tend to enjoy them because I like spending time with characters I get to know. For me when I get involved in a series that I like I enjoy being able to watch characters grow and spend time with them. Sometimes it can be like spending time with old friends. I can say that I have even mourned when a series ends and I no longer gets to spend time with the characters I have grown to love. So what is your feeling on series books?

THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: What do you think of ghostwriters??

As someone who does a fair amount of ghost writing myself for work I have long wondered what other’s think of them. For my part I try and stick with non fiction work and blog posts, things like that. I have been asked on ocassion to do fiction but most of the time I turn it down because I feel if I am going to write a work of fiction it will be my own. With that being said I know that there are some huge names out there that use ghostwriters. This is going to sound hypocritical because I do writing work but often times I don’t like it. Maybe it is because I do the work that I can generally tell when an author has used a ghostwriter? We all have our own style and even when a ghostwriter tries to copy as close to the ordinal as possible it still to me feels different. This can often ends up with books in the same series feeling like they do not belong together. I won’t automatically stop reading an author if they use a ghostwriter I try to judge books on their content more then anything. What about you?

THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: Have you ever met someone who really REALLY likes to talk about all the classic books they have read? If so what did you think?

I have no real idea why this one is on my mind today but it is book related so here it is. I myself have met people from all walks and indeed some have loved to list off the classical books they have read like a badge of honor. In general I do think most of them were just making conversation and not meaning anything by listing classical books. I know in one case these really were the books they enjoyed.

That being said. I have also come across a few who I think were just trying to be pretentious about it. I hate saying that and I hate saying the term book snob too, but sometimes that is what it is. These times I have known it was about reading higher minded things were usually after I had mentioned a bodice ripper or YA book that I enjoyed. It came across as very well ha you’re reading THAT? Here is what I have read. So what if I like a nice fun bodice ripper sometimes? I know what they are it is not like I think they are Dickens. I have read my share of classical books too, some I like some bore me just like modern ones. I am all about read what you like personally.

THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: Are there any books you really want to see made into Tv shows or movies?

As book readers we see it all the time and have probably even said it ourselves, the book was better. Then we get to enjoy the occasion when they do the book justice on screen. No matter what the screen version and book version of things are always going to be a bit different. There are also, of course way more things based on books than most people notice. I got to pondering though do any other bookers like I occasionally wish a favorite book or book series would be made into something on screen?

I would love to see the Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR ward series be made into a screen version. I am sure some of the visuals would be a little tough, but I am game to see what they could come up with! I would also love to see Stephanie Laurens Cynster series brought to the screen. Come on look at the success of Outlander and Poldark! We need the Cynster’s in our lives! Finally,` I would like to see a new and better done version of The Harry Dresden series the Dresden files. I know they did one season, but it was So different from the book and they really changed to many things they don’t seem to be the same source material at all.

How about you?

THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: Do you like or dislike memoirs?

I have been watching a number of documentaries or movies based on memoirs as of late and I always end up looking for the books as well if I haven’t read them already. So what do you think of memoirs? I have found in my circle of friends folks either love them or hate them there is no in-between. I enjoy them for the most part though I have read a few that just seemed like self serving drivel, but most of them have been great. So what do you think?

THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: Have you ever read a book that changed your life?

As book lovers we all have books special to us. Maybe it is one that made us fall in love with reading or one that holds special memories. One thing I have not heard anyone talk about often is a book that literally changed their life, changed how they looked at the world. Have you ever had a book like that? I feel like in the fact that I have had a couple of books change things in my life. One of those was Good Grief by Lolly Winston. There was something about that book that reached into me and just shook my core. I can’t really explain it in words but I know it was a life changing book. It is one that I need to go back and read again now that my life has indeed changed so much and see if I can find a way to say how it made me feel better. So how about you?
