Book Review: Betrayed by P.C Cast and Kristin Cast

Fledgling vampyre Zoey Redbird has managed to settle in at the House of Night. She’s come to terms with the vast powers the vampyre goddess, Nyx, has given her, and is getting a handle on being the new Leader of the Dark Daughters. Best of all, Zoey finally feels like she belongs–like she really fits in. She actually has a boyfriend …or two. Then the unthinkable happens: Human teenagers are being killed, and all the evidence points to the House of Night. While danger stalks the humans from Zoey’’s old life, she begins to realize that the very powers that make her so unique might also threaten those she loves. Then, when she needs her new friends the most, death strikes the House of Night, and Zoey must find the courage to face a betrayal that could break her heart, her soul, and jeopardize the very fabric of her world.

Betrayed is the second thrilling book in The House of Night Series. I was hopelessly hooked on this series by the end of Marked, but Betrayed has only served to pull me into the series even more. We join up with Zoey and her friends again a month after we last left her in Marked. She has settled into her school nicely, and is now fretting about the other issues that seem to follow her around wherever she goes. The biggest one seems to be boy troubles.

Zoey Redbird who was so worried about fitting in at her new school has more boys than she can handle. I can’t help but laugh a little bit, because on top of the usual Teenage Hormones poor Zoey also has to deal with the hormone changes that happen when you’re a Vampyre. It would seem (and this goes with other books as well) they are very Sexual creatures, and much of that drive is connected to their blood lust and drinking. So poor Zoey finds herself Imprinted with her ex Heath, very loving towards her current Beau the handsome and talented Erik Night, and a teacher Loren Blake the talented vampire Laurent. Oh my!

As if that wasn’t bad enough Zoey will face trials like she hasn’t before, she looses a good friend, and somebody is killing are teenagers. The killings to crop up and play a bit of a part of the story line, but over all they are background to Zoeys loss, as well as her trials with the boys in her life and of course changing the Dark Daughters. The final blow to poor Zoey comes when someone she looks up to and nearly worships becomes something else. From light to dark. It is a powerful blow, but Zoey and her Goddess given gifts find away to keep going.

Betrayed is an emotionally charged read and I found myself crying as I read it. But I also could not put the book down as it was so good. Some of the themes are a little more adult than I would expect for a young adult novel, but nothing to over the top. Just beware you should probably pre read it before you let your young adult read it. It is a great second book in the series.

Prepaid Visa

In today’s economy constantly charging small items is just not a smart idea. I can’t count how many times I have been out and about and heard or seen people using credit card for small items. Like a small lunch, or one book. With interest rates how they are, how does that make sense? To me it really doesn’t. Now I know most banks offer cards that way as well, so it’s always a choice.

But my personal preference is a prepaid Visa Debit card. I personally am not a big fan of banks right now. That may sound a little bit conspiracy sounding but I just cant bring myself to trust institutions that need Billions of dollars of tax payer money and than still abuse that money. So I myself do use prepaid cards, they work just like a checking account only a bit better. You can check your statements online automatically. You also get free direct deposit, and a lot of other fantastic perks.

The Vision prepaid has zero monthly fees, and some other fantastic perks. Including free bill pay. I don’t know about you but the bank I was at charged people for online bill pay and that irritated the heck out of me. So I am happy with any company that offers it free for me. My electric, phone, and such are all paid through bill pay. So if you’re looking for something to make it bits easier check it out.

A note about the advertising..

I know there have been a lot of advertising posts in the last few days. And if that irritates some of you I do apologize, but let me tell you why it’s been picking up. As my lovely blog has gotten more traffic, and more page rank I have also had more bandwidth use, and more fees. I don’t mind any of these fees and I am HAPPY that my blog is getting success.

That being said, having cancer myself, and not being able to have the usual 9-5 job I am used to affects the cash flow. So our advertising posts are the sponsors to keep the site going. They also help for me to be able to offer giveaways when I can. Some will be hattchette and they cover those of course, but others are my own personal book collection.

So in short, if you don’t like the advertising posts I totally understand. And you can just skip right over them. They are always marked advertising. I will never fool you on that. And for the most part I try to pick sponsors that I can relate with. Like the beautiful home décor site. Or the lovely Maternity clothes I just posted. Thanks Guys!

Booking Through Thursday:Unread

In the perfect follow-up to last week’s question, as suggested by C in DC:

Is there a book that you wish you could “unread”? One that you disliked so thoroughly you wish you could just forget that you ever read it?

That’s a tough question. I don’t think I have ever read a book that I hated so much I wish I could unread it. If I ever disliked a book that much I would just stop reading it. Now that being said, I honestly did not enjoy when I had to read Moby Dick for school. That was not one of my favorite reads to be sure. So I guess that would qualify?

Post buy Customer Service, Mosquito Magnet

I have to applaud the Mosquito Magnet Company (and not just for their lovely bug killing tool you know those nasty skeeters are Minnesota’s State bird right?) This is a company that believes firmly in post purchases customer care. They don’t just run away once they have your money, mosquito magnet repair is a great website that offers a full line of easy to access areas for help if you need repair.

I wish all companies subscribed to this same theory of repair and help. I once purchased an expensive but what I thought would be well worth it gas lantern for camping, and reading. Being a big girl scout who never left for camp as a kid or counselor without at least a backpack full of books, it made sense. Rather than burning through all those batteries, especially as an adult. I would just invest in a good gas lantern. Easy pease.

That was not to be, my expensive gas lantern only worked for two uses and than sputtered out. Now I was at camp, and didn’t have access easily to a phone. But we did have a nice internet connection. Well do you think they had internet help? Nope they sure didn’t. And in a technology age you would think that they would. I mean it really makes sense to me; doesn’t it make sense to you? But alas even trying to get a hold of them on the phone ended up being hard. So in the end I was a frustrated customer with a broken product, who will never purchase from them again.
