So for another week there was no question over on the BTT blog, I suspect perhaps it is because of the busy holiday season. So I asked a friend to ask me a book question to use for Today’s.

Anah asked me: “Why do you enjoy Lord of the rings.”

 

A good question for me I like the challenge of reading them. The books are not for the faint of heart after all with the different languages and just the thick way they are written. So for me I enjoy the challenge and just the falling into a different world.

Well I waited til now and no new question yet for today. So since I did not do last weeks I thought I would use last week’s and will edit the post to include this weeks later when it gets posted. 🙂

Do you have a reading equivalent of holiday music to get you in the mood for the holiday season? Any books you make a point of reading this time of year?

I will be honest when it comes to this time of year I tend to be a bit of a scrooge and I have not read that many holiday themed books. That said I plan on reading a couple this year or at least one just to see if it helps me get more into the spirit of the season.

Outside of books, what’s your favorite thing to read? Newspapers? Magazines? Blogs? Fanfiction? Specific websites?

What a great question! I love to read a variety of things I spend a fair amount of time on the forums at swap-bot.com for reading as well as digital spy. I like to read fan fic and of course other blogs. I also read a fair amount over at the yahoo contributor site as well.

I saw a Latin edition of “The Hobbit” last time I was at the bookstore… Do you read any foreign languages? Do you ENJOY reading in other languages?

Well I have not been able to Master reading books in other languages just yet. That said I have close folks who can read them in other languages and when I get the chance I ask them to read out loud to me. I very much do enjoy having books read in other languages there is something romantic and curious about it.

How often do you visit a library? Do you go to borrow books? Do research? Check out the multi-media center? Hang out with the friendly and knowledgeable staff? Are you there out of love or out of need??

When I was young I went to the library all the time. I do not go as much as I used to for a lot of reasons. However when I do I always borrow books or do research. The local library here does not have the films like they did back in Minnesota so that bummed me out a bit I loved looking at films. But I like to go and I generally keep to myself while I browse for books to find a new author or just see what jumps out at me.

Not the kind of “love” question you’re expecting for Valentine’s Day. No, what I want to know is: What do you love most about reading?

Happy Valentines Day everyone! Now onto the question. What do I love about reading the most? I love getting lost in another world. Without leaving my house I can go to anywhere, anytime, any realm in the world or not in the world. I love that! A great book will make me totally lose myself and where I am and just be lost in the world it creates.

Do other people influence what you choose to read? When a family member recommends something, or a friend says they hated a book you were planning to read … does it affect your reading choices?

Sometimes yes and sometimes no. I have gotten some great suggestions for books to read from friends and family. When someone suggests a book to me I am more likely to read it than if someone didn’t like a book. I tend to like to make up my own mind on if a book is bad. Granted this way of things has ended up with me saying “You were right” many times.

It has been a while since I have done this MEME but since I am bringing back the Meme’s it is time to do this one as well. If your only here for the reviews..sorry scroll on down *wink*

Do you lend your books? Are any out on loan right now? Do you have any that have been loaned to you? Do you put a time limit on these? Do you think people should make an effort to read the loaned book quickly?

In general I do not lend out books, because I have a history of not getting them back. That said once in a while I will go ahead and lend one out. I have one lent out right now and it has been out for about 4 months. I suspect I won’t get it back too. I do feel that if you borrow a book from one especially if they let you know that it is one they have not read yet you should be timely about reading and returning. I mean the library has limits too right?

This week it is asked:

Do you ever try to pair music with the book you’re reading? Play the movie soundtrack while reading the original book? Find mood music that fits with your story?

If I am reading a book that has been made into a movie sometimes I will listen to the sound track. I know when I read Les Mis I had the soundtrack going. How could you not? It is one of those ones that just screams for that. Sometimes I just have music on in the background softly and I find without knowing that it fits what I am reading. Moods can go with moods sometimes when you don’t even notice it.

In general, do you prefer the beginnings of stories? Or the ends?

It depends on the book. But in general I find the end more enjoyable because the beginning can be a little tough to get into in some books.
