I decided that I wanted to share one of the books I am currently reading this week. This one is one I have been waiting for a couple months via the library hold system. It was finally made open to me via audio file so audio file it is.

SalemWitches

The Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Cleopatra, the #1 national bestseller, unpacks the mystery of the Salem Witch Trials.

It began in 1692, over an exceptionally raw Massachusetts winter, when a minister’s daughter began to scream and convulse. It ended less than a year later, but not before 19 men and women had been hanged and an elderly man crushed to death.

The panic spread quickly, involving the most educated men and prominent politicians in the colony. Neighbors accused neighbors, parents and children each other. Aside from suffrage, the Salem Witch Trials represent the only moment when women played the central role in American history. In curious ways, the trials would shape the future republic.

As psychologically thrilling as it is historically seminal, THE WITCHES is Stacy Schiff’s account of this fantastical story-the first great American mystery unveiled fully for the first time by one of our most acclaimed historians.

Random weekly question: What has been your most favorite book, so far, this year? Why?

This is a tough one because I have been doing a lot of re-reading this year for various reasons. Research for work and enjoyment being the biggest two reasons. If I enjoy a book well enough to re-read it even for work that means it is in one of my favorite piles already. If I picked just one I will go with The Help which I just finished recently. I have loved the movie since it came out but it was one of the few books that I read after I saw the movie. You is smart, you is kind and you is important.

Random question: What do you do when you finish a book? Do you immediately start another one?

Most often yes I do indeed start a new book once I finish one. However, lately I will only end up reading a page or two then set it aside so I can do some crochet work. The only way this does not apply is if I am listening on Audio. The last two years I have blazed through the Dresden series on audio while crocheting and I do not regret it. I love spending time with Dresden!

Random weekly question: Do you review books? If so, who do you review for? If not, was it by choice? Why?

Well this is a little bit of a already answered question given the fact that I am answering it on a book review blog. So yes I do write reviews for my books and I do them for a few places, I of course do them here on my own blog and I have also done them for a place called Readers Favorite. Yes it was a choice that I made simply because I enjoy book reviews. When I first started this blog I thought it would be a nice way to challenge myself in my reading and keep track of my reading. Over the years I may have failed at some of my challenges (likely happening again this year) but I always enjoy writing the reviews and doing the weekly Meme’s here on the blog. So overall I am happy that I decided to begin book reviews.

Do you read any horror, or something scary, in honor of Halloween? Why, or why not?

No I don’t because I just tend to read whatever is interesting to me at the time. I did in the past try to read things for the season, Christmas and the like but it didn’t really work out. I do naturally seem to get a little more in the vampire mood for October though.

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: What fictional character would you enjoy meeting? Why?

This is an interesting question and I really do have to sit back and think about it. There are a lot of fictional characters that I would like to have a chance to meet. If I could only pick one I think I would pick Henrietta Selwick from the Pink Carnation series. There is something about her that just sticks out in my mind I would love to talk with her and go on an adventure around Regency England or France.

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: What fictional world would you love to live in, even if just for a day?

This is a tough one. I think right now “gun to my head” I would say Middle Earth. It seems like such a fantastic beautiful place. Sure it has a lot of war but so do we here in our own world. Yeah Middle Earth and I would love to hang out with the riders of Rohan.

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION:Is a rainy day likely to inspire you to read?

Yes a rainy day will often make me want to curl up and read usually before or after a good nap. I have trouble sleeping but it always seems that rainy days bring on the sleep for me. I try to sleep as much as I can on those days.

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: If you were forced to spend the rest of your life in a library, a museum, or a zoo, which would you choose — and why?

I would probably choose a library of course because I could be endlessly entertained by all the books. There are so many books in a library I doubt I could read them all but it would be a fun challenge.
