Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about library etiquette…
For the regular library patrons among us: do you have your own idea of what constitutes proper library etiquette? Is there anything you always try to do? Anything you hate when others do?
It has been a very long time since I was at the library. But I used to go all the time when I was younger, or even really up until about a year ago. My biggest pet peeve is people eating in the library. It is allowed at my library but really it bothers me. Nothing is ickier than picking up a book or watching someone with a book and they are getting cheeto orange all over it. Ick.
I also dislike the noise levels some people think are okay. The library is supposed to be a nice and relaxed place. Not a place with running screaming kids, and noisy chatty cell phones. OH my goodness yes Pet peeve CELL PHONE USE IN THE LIBRARY. You seriously don’t need to have it attached to you ALL THE TIME.
Okay…I have said my piece for the muse.
I usually remember to turn my cell to vibrate, but once in awhile I forget and scramble to silence the phone.
Umm – I work in a library – yes people have clipped their nails in the library, performed functions best left behind closed doors and peed on chairs ( not always kids) and ohh so much more…..
Yuck over Luanne's comment! I imagine she has seen it all. I love the library. Helps me with my book budget.
I have to double that yuck Luanne. *shudders* very ewwww.. I treat the library better than my own house when I go. Or used to. I use Paperbackswap these days for budget control.
Ambrosia Jefferson, the problem I had with Paperbackswap and other trading sites is the books I'd send were like brand new. The ones I got back in trade had cracked spines with pages falling out. I'd say about 85% were well used. Kept feeling I was being ripped off.
Sadly that does happen J. while I have in all my trades (being a member over 2 years now) had only maybe 4 or 5 books I thought were just a rip off, some have been better than others. The more hard read ones I got were in Box of book trades vs requests I made myself. I can understand your feeling though, most of my books I send are read once ocassionaly I send on one thats more well loved. But in general for me personaly as long as it meets the posting guidelines set forth by PBS I am happy. I have gotten a few books I was even happy had some wear to them. One was a Thomas Jefferson book, I guess to the historian in me it felt more “authentic” lol.
I can not speak for any of the other trading sites. as PBS is the only one I have used.
