Musing Monday #20

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is a library habits meme…

This week we have a library meme courtesy of MizB:

Library Habits meme:
1) If you don’t frequent your local library, why not?

I currently find it easier to not worry about having a due date on books.
2) If you do visit the library, how often do you go?
I used to go weekly.
3) Do you have a favorite section that you always head to first, or do you just randomly peruse the shelves?
Fiction, and History
4) How many books are you allowed to check out at one time? Do you take advantage of this?
I am fairly sure it’s unlimited, if it isn’t I haven’t checked out enough to be told no. And I used to check out tones.

5) How long are you allowed to have the books checked out?
Depends on the book.
6) How many times are you allowed to renew your check-outs, if at all?
2 I think.
7) What do you love best about your particular library?
The coffee shop.
8) What is one thing you wish your library did differently?
check out’s
9) Do you request your books via an online catalogue, or through the librarian at your branch?
You can do it both ways.
10) Have you ever chosen a book on impulse (from the online catalogue OR the shelves) and had it turn out to be totally amazing? If so, what book was it, and why did you love it?
Honestly nope not yet. I will keep you updated.

Musing Monday #19

So I am back to my MEME’s yay. And here we go. Its time for musing Monday:

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about book covers (again)…

As a follow up to last week’s question, Melody asked about when book covers do not match the story. Do you feel disappointed when the cover’s don’t match the story? Have you ever been completely misled by a book cover?

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Musing Mondays post, or share your opinion in a comment here (if you don’t have a blog). Thanks.

Well I didn’t do last weeks but this one made me giggle a bit. I really don’t think the covers not matching bother me much… After all one of my favorite books is eclipse and the cover is a breaking ribbon. I am not sure what that has to do with the story. So I guess no it does not upset me.

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about mid-year reading…

Now that we’ve come to the middle of the year, what do you think of your 2009 reading so far? Read anything interesting that you’d like to share? Any outstanding favourites?

Well, I am a day behind again. Ha ha. But I spent most of Monday reading and am actually now ahead on my July reads, mahahaha. Anyways, I have had a pretty good year for reading so far. There have been some downs, some books I didn’t like. But most of all I have enjoyed most of what I have been reading. There are a few stand outs like Mozart’s Sister, Lady Washington both by Nancy Moser, and shoot the moon by Billie Letts.

Musing Monday #17

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about library borrowing…

Do you restrict yourself on how many books you take out from the library at a time? Do you borrow books if you already have some out? Do you always reborrow books you don’t get to?

Well when I used to take books out of the library (I do not anymore) I took a ton. And I would usually either get them all read before the due date or renew the ones that I didn’t finish. So I always made sure I got through them one way or another. But I never did limit myself.

Musing Monday #16

My Sleeping schedule has me a day behind. Here we go..

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about award winning books…

Do you feel compelled to read prize-winning (Giller/Booker/Pulitzer etc) books? Why, or why not? Is there, perhaps, one particular award that you favour? (question courtesy of MizB)

No I don’t because I don’t think a book has to have won an award to be good. There are so many fantastic books out there, and lets face it not a lot of prizes to go around. And ironicly for myself the some of the prize winners I read, I hated. So…a prize doesn’t make it a good book.

Musing Monday #15 – Reading Time

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about reading time…

Do you have a set reading time (before bed, perhaps)? Do you read more at night or during the day? Is there a day of the week, perhaps, that you set aside to catch up on reading?

I read any time I can possibly read. I do most of my reading at night however. When my husband is asleep and the day is mostly done. I can cuddle up with my book and read. I am a night owl so it also gives me something to do. I try to read everyday, but if I fall behind Sunday is the day I use to try to catch up. However once Renn fest starts for those weeks my catch up day for reading will be Tuesdays.

Musing Monday #14 – Sticking With It

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about sticking with it…

How much time (or how many pages) do you give a book that you aren’t really enjoying before you’ll set it aside? If you’re reading it for a book group discussion, or for review, will you give it more of a chance then, say, a book you’re reading for your own interest? Why, or why not? (courtesy of MizB)

I will generally give a book around 60 pages or so to really grab me. If I am really not liking it at all I will say forget it. I have too many books in my pile to read to just keep at it. However, if it’s a book sent to me to review, or a book for a group yes I will be more likely to give it a bigger chance than the others. But still…sometimes it is just not worth it to keep reading.

Musing Monday #13 – Gift Certs

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about gift certificates…

Do you give gift certificates to book stores as presents? If so, do you give for actual stores or online stores? Do you like to receive them yourself?

Oh yes I do. I give them out often. Usually I give out regular store ones. Unless I know the shopper prefers to shop online if that’s the case than I get them an online one.

Now for me I like Book Store GC (duh) and I will take ones for a real store or online. I do prefer online as it’s just easier for me right now with what’s going on. But also the most affordable shop so far is online.

Musing Monday #12

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about early reading…

Do you remember how you developed a love for reading? Was it from a particular person, or person(s)? Do you remember any books that you read, or were read to you, as a young child? (question courtesy of Diane)

I honestly don’t know how I got started with my love of reading, but I know I have always loved to read. I know I have always enjoyed grabbing a book sitting back and digging in. I would sit up late with a flash light under my sheet and read. I wasn’t a TV kid I was a book kid. I know my mom liked to read and still does so it’s very possible I got it from her. I know my great great (so on) uncle is Mark Twain, so who knows. But I know I have always been a reader, and I hope I always am.

Musing Monday #11

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about boys and reading…

Have you ever finished a book, then turned around and immediately re-read it? Why? What book(s)? (question courtesy of MizB)

Yes I have. When I was a teenager I read The Black Stallion by Walter Farley, the problem is I read it very slowly because for some reason I had trouble getting into it. I think it took like 4 months to read. By the end of the book I was completely hooked so I turned right around and re-read it. I don’t think I have done that since however.
