Book Review: Bergdorf Blondes by Plum Skyes

Plum Sykes burst on to the literary scene in 2004 with her beguiling debut novel introducing readers to the glamorous world of PAPs (Park Avenue Princesses) and her loveable heroine, Moi, a “champagne bubble of a girl” who became an instant hit with readers from coast to coast.

I am sorry it took me so many years after publication for me to find this book. The Bergdorf Blondes is a really wonderful romp through socialite New York. The book follows the point of view of Moi, with her friends Julie Bergdorf (the queen bee of society), Lara and Jolene and may others. At some parts you want to laugh and ask yourself can anyone really be this shallow. They abbreviate everything including the word PH for potential husband. But, at the end of the day you really just do have to laugh about it.

Moi takes us not only into the world of the fashion obsessed “Princesses of Park Avenue” but through a series of her own very poor relationship mistakes. There is Zach, the moody depressing photographer who treats her like crap, who she almost marries. Eduardo the married, with children prince from some where or another, Patrick the married man with the psycho wife. And of course the very “regrettable” Charlie Dulain, who is Julie’s boy friend, or so she thought. You will get a few curve balls you didn’t see coming in this fun little run around the world, from New York to Rio and back again. I recommend reading this one if you want something easy, and something to lighten your mood.

Ohio Property Company

So it’s that time of morning again when I am thinking about real estate, and a favorite line from the patriot comes to mind, “Tell me about Ohio”. So yes I am talking about Ohio, this company here Real Property is a cool company in Ohio that manages all over the state. Their website boasts managing units, single family homes ect. They have a 2008 honorable mention award too, over all I think its pretty cool and put it in the keeper pile with tell me about Ohio Real Estate. The weather has to be better than Minnesota right? So if you’re in Ohio, or thinking about Ohio give that link a click and check it out.

Bad book reader.. write better.

So I was looking back over some of my reviews lately and smacked myself in the head. Most of my reviews as of late have been so short. How bad of me, I mean really you think I could squeee out a few more words. And I am going to try, I resolve to attempt to write more about each book I read. And be a good girl.

1776- The Smile of Jefferson

I know I am the video queen today, and you all probably hate me. But I am behind on reading, lol and I want to keep the blog updated. This is a bit that was shortened in the final copy of the movie. I have to say I love Ken Howard as Jefferson, and his smile in this scene makes me smile.

1776 – The Egg

Everyone who knows me, knows I am a history buff. That one of my favorite Era’s is The Rev War, and our blessed founding fathers. This, is one of the best musicals I can think of from a Theatre perspective, and of course my love of the era. And, to make it book like, well 1776 IS a book, lol.

Working Capital Company

So I thought I would offer a little linky link to anyone who has a business and needs some working capital, I know a lot of us book types are stay at home workers, or the like. So it never hurts to share a few little tricks of the trade right? This link here factoring invoices does a lot of services, that might help. The Invoice factoring is really cool, and a useful service. I suggested it to my dad for his cleaning company and he’s going to be looking into it. I also passed it off to another friend of mine who works for a bigger company, in today’s economy services like invoice factoring could be very useful.

Booking Through Thursday:March 5th

We’ve all seen the lists, we’ve all thought, “I should really read that someday,” but for all of us, there are still books on “The List” that we haven’t actually gotten around to reading. Even though we know they’re fabulous. Even though we know that we’ll like them. Or that we’ll learn from them. Or just that they’re supposed to be worthy. We just … haven’t gotten around to them yet.
What’s the best book that YOU haven’t read yet?

For me its Anne of Green Gables. I keep telling myself I need to read it. But I haven’t yet. What a geek I am. Someday..someday!

Sensual Addiction..my perfume habit

So even if you’re an indoor bookie person like me, (sometimes I have to be because of the weather…) you want to smell good right? I mean we can’t walk around with smell de book smell, oh heaven if we could. So I will admit I have what one might call a sensual addiction. My favorite perfume has to be Armani Mania, Oh that’s heaven in a bottle. I do switch occasionally and have a large perfume collection, but Armani Mania perfume is on the top list all the time. It’s a heavier smell, has some vanilla and musk undertones, but oh it’s so nice. Come to think of it, the male version might be what Edward (yes the sparkly one); I may have to do some research on that tomorrow when I am out. So because I am talking a little bit about perfume today I thought I would show you the link here, perfume blog it’s a really cool perfume blog.
