Musing Monday 8/21/17

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme that asks you to choose one of the following prompts to answer:

I’m currently reading…
Up next I think I’ll read…
I bought the following book(s) in the past week…
I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…
I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…
I can’t wait to get a copy of…
I wish I could read ___, but…
I blogged about ____ this past week…

THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: Do you steer away from heavy emotional books?

This came up when I was talking with a friend about what book I could read to keep my mind off the loss of my sweet Dutchy. I don’t usually stay away from the tear jerk-er books, in fact if an author can bring tears to my eyes that is an author I am going to read more of, because happy, sad even mad I like being moved by what I am reading. That being said I was staying away from anything heavier then a Garfield or Calvin & Hobbes as she handed me books. I know she was trying to help but oh so many books were rejected, not her fault of course. In the past I have read deeper novels for sure,Mercy & My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult come to mind as does Good Grief by Lolly Winston (considering reading it again in the future).

I digress, when I noticed what I was doing it got me to thinking and so I asked a few friends. Surprising to me several of them said they purposely didn’t read heavier books, they just wanted to stay away from them in general. I don’t think I make the choice consciously generally only sub consciously most of the time, but I could be wrong. It is something I feel I should look at more in depth at another time.

So what about you? Bring on the musing!
