Musing Monday 3/17/14

Musing Monday is hosted over at Should Be Reading.

Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…

• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.
• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!
• Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!

If you listen to Audio books can the reader make it or break it for you? That is my muse this week because I have just started listening to audiobooks and I am finding that my third one I am listening too is not nearly as enjoyable as the first ones. I think that it is the reader and I just do not like his style of reading the book, is that a thing? Or am I just being fussy?

  1. Audibooks are break deal for me regardless of the reader. I really fall asleep after first five minutes. Tried this with three different books. *sigh* It could have saved a lot of time, if I’d have enjoyed listening too.

  2. I think the narrator can ABSOLUTELY make or break an audiobook! I listened to one recently where the female narrator had such a monotone–it was really off-putting. Luckily the plot was enough to keep me going–but I’m really glad that it wasn’t the first audiobook I tried.

  3. I listened to a mystery by a writer I just loved. It was part of a series and I had listened to others and really liked them. This one had a different person doing the recording and I really did not like how he sounded. It changed my enjoyment of the audio book. Here is my post: Mixed Book Bag

  4. I’ve never been a huge fan of audio books because the pace is always too slow. I’m a fast reader normally, and I get impatient. But I definitely agree about the narrator. Sometimes you spend more time focusing on their voice than on the story.
