Book Review: Me Before You (Me Before You #1) by Jojo Moyes

Louisa Clark is an ordinary young woman living an exceedingly ordinary life—steady boyfriend, close family—who has never been farther afield than their tiny village. She takes a badly needed job working for ex-Master of the Universe Will Traynor, who is wheelchair-bound after an accident. Will has always lived a huge life—big deals, extreme sports, worldwide travel—and now he’s pretty sure he cannot live the way he is.

Will is acerbic, moody, bossy—but Lou refuses to treat him with kid gloves, and soon his happiness means more to her than she expected. When she learns that Will has shocking plans of his own, she sets out to show him that life is still worth living.

A love story for this generation, Me Before You brings to life two people who couldn’t have less in common—a heartbreakingly romantic novel that asks, What do you do when making the person you love happy also means breaking your own heart?

This was another one of those books that fell into the category of books go read before watching the film. I enjoyed both overall. The film was fun the book was a fun read. It really is a bit of a love story that is just perfect for this time and anyone who knows me knows I prefer historical romances so that is high praise. That being said, there were points of the book where I almost stopped reading it, or I almost went ahead and skipped ahead. It is never a great moment in reading when I do something like that. It just dragged sometimes and I found myself wishing the characters would just get on with it.

So this one ended up as a middling ground read for me. I enjoyed the movie more, but I am not sad that I read the book. As always of course you get a bit more detail and information about the characters in a book. So my final verdict on it? I would say give it a read, you might end up liking it more then me and it could just have been my preference of historical romance causing the issue. If nothing else if you are committed to reading the book before watching the movie, it’s a solid day and it won’t ruin your day at all.
